Rory knows she could have stayed behind with the Doctor. It wouldn't have bothered him if she had. He would have gone to his grave, content with the thought that the Doctor would look after her. )

"Do you miss it?" he asked instead. This line of questioning wasn't any less awkward, but he wanted to know. Were his friends better off without him, living quieter lives? )

Behind him, he heard the sonic screwdriver whir softly though the sound was quickly followed by an annoyed grumble from Amy. "I always wondered why I didn't see you during the Time War, but maybe now I know why." )

The Doctor grabbed her hand again. She could barely make out his face in the gloom, but she was sure he was smiling at her. It was his "Trust me, I know what I'm doing" smile, the same smile he had given her when she was seven years old and there had been a crack in her bedroom wall. Whether that moment had happened for real or was just a memory, Amy had trusted him then. She would trust him now, as always. )

The Doctor felt he finally owed Amy an explanation. They were both to blame for being away from Glen Beagan when the attack came, but he could have easily avoided any and all problems if he had simply told the truth from the beginning. But wanting to and being able to were two entirely different things. )

But why here? Why attack a remote Scottish hamlet? A hamlet now home to a former travelling companion of his no less. Questions were fun, but the Doctor liked answers more. )

Amy always found it hard to tell what the Time Lord was thinking and this time was no different. His expression was blank but she thought she saw a glimmer of guilt in his eyes. )

Chapter One.

The Doctor ignored the boy and he strode over to the older man who had followed Cameron. He had a stirring speech proclaiming their innocence ready to go but then it promptly flew out of his head when the Doctor saw the laird. )

A/N: It's not super clear if "Death of the Doctor" happened before or after "A Christmas Carol", but I'm going on the assumption it happened before "A Christmas Carol" and that Amy and Rory's honeymoon on the ship was the Doctor's second recommendation to them. A special thanks to [livejournal.com profile] newnumber6, who came up with the basic plot of this story ages ago while we were chatting one night. Amy gently pushed Rory aside and with great trepidation she reached out to grab the object. The last time she had seen one of these, or something like it, she had ended up unconscious. )

A/N: A little fic expanding on Amy's line from "Day of the Moon": "My life was so boring before you just dropped out of the sky." She says it's just a figure of speech, but I thought it would be funnier if she sort of meant it literally. Un-beta'd.

Amelia got to her feet and stood over the boy so he could see her. He looked older than her but shorter. "What were you doing in the tree?" she asked. )
I've spent the past couple of weekends working on my Old!Amy armour from "The Girl Who Waited" and while I'm nowhere near finished, it is progressing. Since Thursday I've been working on the shoulder panel. What does four days of work look like, you ask?

The entire thing is made out of cardboard and tape of some kind (duct or otherwise) as I'm not willing to spend a lot of money on this costume. I know it doesn't look like much, but I can't tell you how many hours I've spent hunched over my desk making this thing. As you can see, I'm only half way done on the hexagon detailing. It went a little pear shaped in some places, but if you look at the actual patten from the episode it's all weird so it's not horribly off the mark. I'm hopeful the other half will look a little better. But man, I am all cross-eyed from looking at those hexagons.

I have no idea how I'm going to do the visor, though. Stupid hexagons. And my god, how hard can it be to find polka dot fabric? I checked one place and it had nothing in the right colours.

I'm going to take a nap now...
For reasons not revealed to me, my sister is looking for a particular poster of Amy. From her description, it sounds like the poster has lines of dialogue, but the original lines have been replaced or crossed out with Doctor Who dialogue. The dialogue is specific to Amy (not really sure if that means the dialogue is Amy's or about Amy). It sounds like Amy's not even on the poster, just the lines.

I took a spin through Google, but since I don't know what the poster looks like I turned up nothing. I'm thinking it's a fan creation and not official merchandise. Anyone know what the heck my sister is talking about?
After dressing up as Amy for Halloween, I've come to two conclusions: 1) I look ridiculous in a ginger wig and 2) the Doctor needs an Asian Companion.

Still, I think my Amy costume turned out rather well.

A couple of pics and a costume break down after the cut )

Oh, I also realized something else. How the hell did the Doctor leave his sonic screwdriver in Amy's jacket during "The Big Bang"? There are no pockets in the damn thing. Did he shove the screwdriver up her sleeve?
Well, I just bought a cheap plastic samurai sword for Halloween.

My sort of plan was to dress up like old!Amy from "The Girl Who Waited". She has the mask, so that would cover my face and the fact that I'm a Chinese girl trying to cosplay as a girl with ginger hair and pale skin. ;-) I also wear black glasses, so even if I don't make the mask, it still fits because I can claim I'm wearing the Doctorcam glasses.

But Halloween is in what? Three weeks? The party I'm attending is on the 29th, so that's close. Too close, maybe, to make the armour. I have made costumes in less time than that before, but this would be a tricky build. It's not like making a med kit out of cardboard and duct tape; that was just a box. This is armour. There are various bits to it and I lack some of the clothing components, too. It might be easier to hold off on the armour for now and make it for the comic book expo in April. I'm sure more people there would recognize it than at the party.

But now I have a samurai sword that's no good until April. I wish I could go as Zoey again. They introduced katanas in Left 4 Dead 2 and they were ported over to Left 4 Dead. It'd make sense. :-)

Any costume suggestions? I have enough stuff to pull together a half decent "The Pandorica Opens"/"The Big Bang" Amy outfit. I'd just need a ginger wig and I would need to buy one anyway. I could also do a female Jayne or "Jane". I have Jayne's yellow t-shirt from Serenity and a Jayne hat. The party host has seen Firefly so I know at least one person would get it.
I've been hoarding these for awhile. Time I posted them.

I needed a new pair of boots. So what do I do? I buy a pair that look like Amy's. Gah, I'm hopeless.

A close match, I think. Aldo.com if anyone's curious. Amy's boots look a little saggier than mine, but Karen Gillan has long, skinny legs and I have short, stubby legs so that probably makes a difference. Still, they're cute boots.

And it's occurred to me that I could cosplay as Amy at the local comic book expo in June. If you know the promo picture I used, it's Amy's outfit from "The Pandorica Opens"/"The Big Bang". I already own a light purple v-neck shirt , a red cable knit scarf, and red knit gloves. I would just need some black skinny jeans, a dark purple undershirt, and a leather jacket. All things I would wear again outside of cosplaying.

(Okay, Amy wore brown cowboy boots in the actual episode, but I so do not want to buy a pair of cowboy boots, even though I live in the fakey cowboy capital of Canada.)

The only thing I would definitely need but would not use again is a ginger wig. But without it, I'm just some Asian chick dressed very warmly for the middle of June. It's super tempting though. Last comic book expo I did see some Doctor Who cosplayers, but season five of Doctor Who had only started a few weeks earlier, so there were no Eleventh Doctor era costumes. I could potentially met an Eleventh Doctor. :-)

Something to think about, but for the time being, I'm going to enjoy my new boots.
