Meme time!

locker_monster: (Canada)
Haven't done a meme in a while. Stolen from [ profile] ladymercury_10:

So what have you been up to? / Major life changes? Same old same old?
Yup, same old, same old. Still employed, which is a tough thing right now since I work in the oil and gas industry and there are layoffs aplenty. My current project is chugging along, but it could go belly up for all I know.

What fandom are you in/do you spend most of your time in?
Doctor Who. No surprise there. I do squee over things, like the Arrowverse and the MCU, but nothing captures my imagination quite like the Whoverse.

Where do you hang out online?
LJ. I can't bring myself to join Twitter or Instragram or tumblr. I''m just not cut out for it.

What are you reading?
I finished the second book in The Expanse series the other day and I picked up a pile of books from my book group. From that pile I started The Art of Racing in the Rain, which I only took because the story is told from a dog's point of view. Yes, I'm a sucker for cute animals. I'm also reading the third volume of the trade paperback of Hawkeye, the one written by Matt Fraction. There's one more volume to go and I think it was just released or will be released soon.

What are you watching?
I started Constantine, but I haven't made much headway on it. I've been super lazy in my summer TV watching. I wanted to get into Dark Matter and Killjoys, but that never happened. That may have to wait for the Christmas holidays. I did catch the first episode of the Guardians of the Galaxy cartoon. Yeah, it's not worth my time. It tries very hard to keep the spirit of the movie, but it doesn't quite get there.

What are you making?
Knitted things, which I cannot disclose at this time. Trying to write some fanfic, too, but it's been a bit of a struggle lately. It's not that I don't have ideas; I'm just having a hard time getting the words down.

What are you squeeing about today?

This is an awesome video on how Vancouver stands in for all of these cities in the world but it rarely gets to play itself. I do believe Continuum is the only show that used Vancouver as Vancouver. Well, Mass Effect 3 set the opening of the game in Vancouver, but that doesn't really count. ;-) Maybe it's a Canadian thing, but I can always tell when a show or movie films in Vancouver. It just has this look, you know, even though Vancouver can be made to look like various cities.

If you could rope old fandom friends into a new fandom, it would be...
I don't really have a new fandom to rope people into. I guess it would be The Expanse series. The TV show is coming in December so that will be a nice gateway into the books. The world reminds me a lot of Firefly so hopefully The Expanse TV show can fill that void.
Saw this on [ profile] tardis_stowaway's LJ. Thought I'd give it a go:

I know very little about some of the people on my friends list. Some people I know relatively well. But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself. Any old thing at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's Parker ...she likes money and cereal." I'd love it if everyone who's friended me did this. (Yes, even you people who I know really well.) Then post this in your own journal. In return, ask me anything you'd like to know about me and I'll give you an answer.

I was going to rant about work, but after a few recent events, I'm just glad that I have a job. It may not be fun and they keep giving me stuff that's not my area of expertise, but it's a job and that's good enough.

I will, however, rant about a co-worker at work.Rant held within )

It'd be nice to get away from it all, but now's not really a great time. The only thing I have to look forward to is the local comic book expo in April. It is the only time I actually take a day off work that isn't vacation related. I have my fingers crossed that they'll announce some Doctor Who guests soon. Oh, and it goes without saying that I'm looking forward to Doctor Who, too, whenever that comes back. :-)

Your job is now your Time Lord name. The last digit of your phone number is the current regeneration you are in. The nearest clothing item to your right is now the most notable item in your current wardrobe. The last person you texted is your current companion. Your favorite word is now your catchphrase.

So I guess I'm the Admin. I'm in my second incarnation and my signature part of my outfit is a Mass Effect hoodie. I'm a lonely Time Lady; I don't travel with a Companion. My catchphrase is "Hee!"

Basically, I'm an admin assistant, though the admin comes at the end of my job title. I wasn't near a closet when I wrote this so I chose what I was wearing and like Machete, I don't text (in actuality I don't own a cell phone with texting capabilities). And I say "Hee!" a lot when I'm excited. :-)

An Unearthly Child to the Big Bang:
When you see this post, draw a TARDIS from memory and post it on your journal. Crayons, No. 2 pencils, MS Paint, it doesn't matter. In celebration of the ~flexibility~ of canon in the Doctor Who universe, no points are given for accuracy. :D

I wanted to post something for Doctor Who's 47th anniversary and this was too good to resist. Whipped up in Adobe Photoshop.

Icon meme!

# Reply to this post, and I will pick six of your icons.

# Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.

# Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.

# This will create a never-ending cycle of icon squee. Whoo!

[personal profile] kefira chose these six for me.

Courtesy of [personal profile] newnumber6 . Because I've gone ten days without discussing Doctor Who. I'm surprised my own self. :-D

Userpics meme

Meme courtesy of [ profile] lorelei_frolick.

Look at your LJ userpics list. If you have fewer than 50 icons, pick every fifth one. If you have between fifty and seventy-five icons, pick every seventh one. If you have over seventy-five icons, pick every tenth one. If you have fewer than ten, pick all of 'em. List them on your LJ, and tell everyone exactly why you have it, why it's interesting to you, what significance does it have.

I'm going to try all fifteen. No guarantees that each icon will have an interesting story. ;-)

What American accent do you have?
Created by Xavier on

North Central. This is what everyone calls a "Minnesota accent." If you saw "Fargo" or "Drop Dead Gorgeous" you probably didn't think the characters sounded very out of the ordinary. Some Americans may mistake you for a Canadian.

Canada. You probably get irritated when British people and Europeans think you're from the States, but over here we wouldn't make a mistake like that.

Take this quiz now - it's easy!
We're going to start with "cot" and "caught." When you say those words do they sound the same or different?

Name Things You Like Meme. [profile] lorelei_frolick gave me the letter "A". Leave a comment if you like and I'll give you a letter.

Angel - The T.V. show and the character. I will admit freely that David Boreanaz was my first T.V. celebrity crush.

Allergy medication - I'm allergic to a lot of things - dogs, cats, mold, dust, nuts - so it's good stuff to have around during the spring or autumn and when, y'know, I don't want to die. :-D

Apples - The best fruit. You can make a bunch of things out of it: apple pie, apple sauce, apple juice, apple cider, apple crisp. Plus, an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Or so they say.

Animals - Despite the fact that I'm allergic to a lot of them, animals = cute.

Art - It's pretty plus something to do when I don't want to do homework.

Animation - I'm a big geek for cartoons. I'll watch it even if it's for kids. Also, one of my best classes was a Canadian Animation class. Cartoons and learning; can't go wrong.

Antagonists - Because they make plots so much more fun.

Atypical - Good word to describe the things I like.

Arse - It makes me giggle and more fun to say than "ass". ;-)

Anthony Stewart Head - No list starting with the letter "a" would be complete without ASH. He plays my favourite character on Buffy and he's hot. :-D

You tend to pursue many different activities simultaneously. When misfortune does happen, it doesn't actually dishearten you all that much. You have a peaceful mind, viewing the world with calm and serenity. To you, life is not about struggle and strife but about existence and co-existence. You like following the rules and being objective. You are precise and meticulous, and like to evaluate decisions before making them. You feel morose and are prone to lethargy.

Don't know about that morose part, but spot on about everything else.

Work area meme

Mar. 9th, 2007 04:04 pm
locker_monster: (Crafty Buffy)
Another meme courtesy of [profile] browncoat_2x2. Leave a picture or describe your work area (home or office). List 10 gadgets/items you can't live without. Tag 3 people.

I actually have two work areas at home, my desk in my room for writing out things and then my computer desk for everything else. I don't have a picture of either, but my room desk has much more cluttering it up, so I'll go with that one. For a visual, it's just a white desk with a lamp and a bunch of knick-knacks running along the edge that's up against the wall. And in no particular order:

10) Dictionary - It's actually my dad's. It's missing the outside cover, but I used it a lot before I wrote everything up on the computer. Right now it's sitting in the left hand corner of my desk gathering dust.
9) Cup o' pens - It's a plastic cup (with Kellogg cereal characters running around on the outside) full of the pens I pick up at career fairs at school. Saves me having to buy pens. I also have various writing implements I use when making flash cards for my Chinese class so they sit in the cup, too.
8) Lamp - I've had this lamp forever. It's kind of my thinking lamp since I always turn it on when I'm working on something for school.
7) Wooden hedgehog puzzle - I made it in grade eight. There's only three pieces to it so it just sits on my desk, but it's a nice reminder that I can actually accomplish stuff.
6) iPod nano - used to be a CD player, but gotta keep up with the times. ;-) I like listening to music while doing work.
5) Junk drawer - first drawer of the desk on my right. It's full of crap I never use, but a good place to store things that can become distractions if I want to put off doing something.
4) Knick-knacks - same reasoning as number 5. Some of the knick-knacks include a snow globe featuring the skyline of Montreal (the water's starting to dry up it's so old), a penguin figurine wearing a Christmas hat, and this cool glass ball my sister brought back from China for me.
3) Chair - not for the obvious reason that I need to sit down while doing work, but I like leaning back in it when brainstorming. I probably shouldn't be leaning back in it since it's kind of old and the legs might give way, but it helps me to think.
2) Monday poster - it's a poster of a teddy bear holding a seashell to its ear with the caption "You know it's Monday when you pick up a seashell and get a busy signal." It hangs on the wall above my desk. Shows my distaste for Mondays.
1) Desk - like a lot of things that go with the desk, I've had the desk since forever. It's also where I do a majority of my school work so I literally cannot live without it.

And now I shall inflict this meme on tag: [profile] blueanddollsome, [profile] lorelei_frolick, and [profile] sl_podcast.
I got tagged by [ profile] browncoat_2x2. I've seen this meme floating around but now I can't avoid it anymore. ;-)

What is yours?
Explain yourself
Culinary: Mom's cooking My mom makes the best desserts and she makes a lot mainly because I've got a nut allergy so there's a lot I can't eat. So I love eating anything my mom makes, but I always eat way too much. Though, I guess I would be a bad daughter if I didn't eat any at all...
Literary: Fanfiction I'm usually writing or reading it when I should be doing school work. I also find myself thinking about a fic I'm writing during a class so I tend to drift off when the prof is talking.
Audiovisual: Anything I download A lot of the shows I watch I download, though mainly because I don't get the right channel. So I be all illegal just so I can keep up with things. I also watch stuff when I should be doing school work (anyone noticing a theme?) However, to make myself less guilty, I buy the DVDs for the shows I really like.
Musical: I dunno I don't listen to the radio enough to have feel guilty about liking something current. I do have a few songs in the iPod from some "it" artists like James Blunt.
Celebrity: None that I can think of Entertainment shows drive me nuts so I really don't keep up with what celebrities are doing. Unless they're an actor on a show I really like but usually it's an obscure sci-fi show and those actors rarely make the news.

Now I tag:-

No one, because everyone else on my flist has done this meme.
This meme brought to you by [profile] blueanddollsome.

Rule: Post the explanation of where your user name came from. Then tag FIVE users whose explanations you would like to hear. If you are tagged, post your explanation to your page.

Here's goes: Locker_Monster is actually my back-up user name. When I was starting out on the Buffy posting boards, I went with Ness since it was simple and my nickname. Of course, the only problem with Ness is that it's often taken so as I started to branch out I needed something else to go by. So (stay with me here) Ness is part of Loch Ness Monster and going from there I went with a great line from the Buffy ep "I Only Have Eyes For You", where Xander gets attacked by a hand in his locker and when Willow asked what happened, Xander replied, "I'll have you know I was just accosted by some kind of, um, locker monster" and Giles' response was "Loch Ness Monster?" Hopefully that made sense. So basically I sort of got to keep my main user name but at the same time made it relate to Buffy.

As for tagging people, I choose everyone else on my flist since I haven't bothered to make that many friends yet. So I inflict this meme on the following: [profile] browncoat_2x2, [profile] lorelei_frolick, [personal profile] newnumber6, and [profile] sl_podcast.

Music meme

Feb. 22nd, 2007 10:28 am
locker_monster: (Ten/Rose)
This one's courtesy of [profile] browncoat_2x2. Here are the rules:

1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc)
2. Put it on shuffle, for every question, type the song that's playing
3. Press play
4. When you go to a new question, press the next button
5. Don't lie and try to pretend you're cool...
The music selection on my iPod is pretty limited (considering it's only a 2GB), but that won't explain my weird taste in music. ;-)

Snagged this from [profile] lorelei_frolick[profile] "It's a list of IMDB's Top Ranked Movies, you put an X beside the one's you've seen. At the end of each "section", give the total of how many X's you have so far. Best you can do is 250!"

I actually did better than I expected. I give credit to the film class I took my first year of university and my dad's love for old films.
