I'm a little disappointed that Canada didn't have "Deep Breath" screenings on August 23. Oh sure, going on the Monday was still fun, but you could totally tell that most people in the theatre had already seen it. It lacked the excited buzz that "The Day of the Doctor" had. But the theatre was full so if you show it, the fans will come.
The prequel was okay but it felt more like a primer for a non-fan who might have gotten dragged to the screening. I would have preferred a fun scene or something more relevant to the episode. The episode of Doctor Who Extra that they showed afterwards made me miss Doctor Who Confidential. Ten minutes is not enough to capture what goes on behind the scenes. And since I'm in Canada, I won't get to see Doctor Who Extra anyway so no point in getting too attached to it. I can only hope they put all of the episodes on the eventual DVD set.
But the screening did allow me to try out my new Ace cosplay. :-) I had all of the components so the screenings just forced me to put everything on the jacket ahead of my schedule. And damn, that jacket is hot. It was a warm day already and I was boiling. So it's a good cosplay for fall and spring, but not for summer.

With my Seven cosplayer. Classic Companions are not plentiful at the local comic book expo so I can't wait to do this cosplay at the next one in April. My hair should be long enough by then to do a decent braid.

Two other cosplayers we ran in to at the theatre. Once again, if you have cosplayers standing together, people will want photos. It will never stop amusing me. :-)

The theatre was handing these out after the screening. A poor employee had a stack of them and she was just mobbed by eager fans. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with this. Perhaps hang it in my cube at work.
A few more details about the jacket:

I went for the jacket configuration in "Remembrance of the Daleks", which has fewer components than what Ace had in "Dragonfire", but it also has a few more pieces than what she ends up with for the rest of the season. I was actually surprised to find that the jacket wasn't always the same from season to season, or even from episode to episode. So I do have some leeway if I don't like having all of this stuff stuck to me.
Some of the pieces are screen accurate or close enough and a few are substitutes I had to settle for. The Blue Peter badges and the number 1 pin on the upper left sleeve are made out of dollar store craft foam and the Rupert Bear Club button and the Thunderbirds button are just tape and cardboard and some pin backs I bought at Michael's. And thank you
warmcanofcoke, who has a lovely breakdown of Ace's jacket that got the ball rolling for me and who recreated some of the obscure patches on Spoonflower. I'm really glad I'm done though. I don't want to see eBay again for a very long time.
