- I have a new project to go to on Monday; I finally got the confirmation on Thursday. So no more commuting on the train for me. I still have to support the project that I was doing coverage for, but they don't have much work to do, so hopefully it only takes up a small amount of my time. But I'm super happy I will have something different to do. The temporary project was so slow. There were days where I just sat there, staring at my phone. I'm sure the lady who sat across from me thought I was a total slacker.

- I AM A KNITTING MASTER! Okay, not really, but I finally got around to learning the purl stitch, so now I can start some projects in earnest. First up, a thin scarf that I can wear in the spring. The one I usually wear is super thick so it's not suitable for the days when I just want to keep my neck covered. The pattern on this one looks pretty cool and fairly easy, so once I get some good yarn (and better knitting needles, according to my sister), I should be good to go. I'm still amazed that people can produced these awesome things just from winding and twisting the yarn a certain way. I don't see myself following complicated patterns any time soon, but it would be nice to work my way up to knitting gloves. I have small hands so "one size fits all" usually doesn't apply to me.

- The Flash did something awesome this week:

They had freakin' Gorilla Grodd! Sure, it was just in the tag and the shots of him were fleeting, but he was actually attacking people instead of just sitting in a cage like last time. This is a pretty big deal since this seems to mean that the show is committed to having the character in an episode at some point in the future. A talking, super smart ape who still looks like a gorilla and not a man in a gorilla mask. Perhaps the producers have been in contact with Weta, the SFX guys who do the CGI apes for the the rebooted Planet of the Apes movies. Because there's no other way you can do a talking ape. I can't see the show renting out a gorilla from a zoo or a circus. I like that The Flash writers are willing to embrace the crazier side of things from the comics; it helps the show to have an identity separate from Arrow. Oh, and the show will get bonus points if they hire Powers Boothe, who voiced Grodd on the Justice League cartoon, to voice the live action Grodd.

- I saw on io9.com that they've hired writers for the Stargate reboot movie so I guess they're still going ahead with it. :-P I usually don't read the comments, but I was browsing through them on the io9.com article and someone had posted the bit from the Stargate SG-1 episode "200" where they spoof Farscape, and it made me miss the show so much. It's a crazy episode, but it's a sign of a good show when they can poke fun of themselves like that. So if the reboot turns out to be crap, and there's a good chance that it might be, well, I'll just watch some old episodes of SG-1 to make the hurt go away. ;-)

Congrats on learning to purl! I hope you have fun making a scarf. :) I never learned how to knit proper gloves with fingers, but this is my favorite fingerless gloves pattern--it's not too hard once you learn to knit in the round/with double-pointed needles.

It's amazing what you can do with the two kind of stitches working together. The purl stitch is still weird to me, though. You always have to remember to move the yarn to the front when you want to do a purl stitch in the middle of something. So, I really need to concentrate as I'm knitting my scarf so that I don't screw up right in the middle of the row.

Ooh, Ravelry. I registered there to do this scarf. There's some cool ribbing going on with the gloves. Maybe I can get my sister to explain to me how to do knitting in the round once I master knitting in a straight line.

Depending on how many times you need to purl in a row, you might be able to use stitch markers to help you remember? You just hang them over your needle between stitches and pass them along, and they help you count or remember things. If you don't have any stitch markers, small rubber bands, paperclips, or loops of yarn might also work, as long as you don't get them tangled in your knitting.

Yeah, my sister mentioned stitch markers, but the pattern is pretty straightforward. There are only four stitches and they repeat across the row. I think if I was making something more complicated, like a toque, then I would definitely need them. I mean, how do you remember where you left off in something that's circular? At least with a scarf I can stop at the end of a row.

I just can't lose my train of thought while knitting. ;-)
