locker_monster- Saw The Force Awakens again last night. I can see why people keep going to see it. You pick up new things each time. The friend I went with also had an interesting theory about a certain character. I don't know if he's the only one who has thought of this, but even if other fans have had this idea, it's still a neat one:
He suggested that Rey is actually Leia and Han's daughter, not Luke's daughter, that Leia was pregnant with Rey when Han left. I think the timing matches up. Kylo Ren/Ben is 30 and Rey is 19 (I think; I might be quoting a fan or this might be canon information). That's an age gap of 11 years. I can see Ben turning to the Dark Side at 11. Han did say a boy Luke was training destroyed everything. So Ben becomes Kylo Ren, Han leaves Leia, and if she's pregnant at the time, then she has no opportunity to tell him. Leia has the child and then entrusts her to Luke for safekeeping. As Luke and Leia were split up for their safety, maybe Leia wanted to do the same thing for her kids. Luke raises Rey for a bit, maybe they lived at that Jedi Temple for a while, but once Rey starts to manifest Force abilities, Luke freaks out. He doesn't want another of Leia's kids to be tempted to the Dark Side, so he leaves Rey on Jakku so she won't be hunted down by Snoak.
I get the feeling that Luke recognizes Rey at the end of the movie, so that could be one reason. It would also explain why Leia goes to hug Rey at the end of the movie even though they've never met. She knows this is her daughter. Since Rey being Luke's daughter kind of seems obvious, it'd be cool if this theory turns out to be the right one. On the other hand, secret brother and sister has been done before.
- Oh, and after the movie we did dinner and we ended up sitting in the lounge. The waitress actually carded me. Seriously? I still look like I'm under 25? Lady, I haven't been 25 in a while. I guess I should take this as a compliment, but it's still weird.
- Now that my Christmas knitting is done, I find myself with more time on my hands. I know that time should be used to go job hunting, but I'm just not feeling it.
- Instead, I've gotten back into my video games. I started playing Assassin's Creed: Unity. It's for the PS4, so it's a next gen game, and it looks gorgeous. The game play and the cut scenes have the same level of detail. The game was notoriously glitchy when it first came out, so hopefully they've worked out the bugs by now. The game is set during the French Revolution so I like to think I'm learning some history while I play. ;-) Actually, the French Revolution is something they teach in Canadian high schools, since Canada doesn't have a violent revolution of its own to learn about, so I should know some of this stuff already. At one point the main character is thrown into prison and I instantly knew it was the Bastille. And what do you know. The character is still there when Bastille Day happens. My cruise in May visits Paris, so if I end up touring the city, I can look for places from the game. I mean, I did the same thing in Venice and Rome last year. :-)
