First off, the comic book store I went to today is the best comic book store ever. With the high Canadian dollar they're charging the US price for the comics instead of the Canadian price. Whoo!

So, Buffy #8. Yay, the plot actually went some place. I'm not sure how they'll tie everything up by the next issue though. So much was introduced in this part.

This issue really sucked for Faith. There's so much conflict going on with her. Gigi is obviously crazy and so is her plan, but it appeals to Faith because she would be included, and accepted, in something for once in her life. But then there's the whole killing Buffy thing, which is not cool at all, but then, as Faith puts it, whenever Buffy is around Faith comes out as the villain. I really thought that Faith had found a place with the Scoobies but I guess not. Or maybe she did try and just ended up going alone. One interesting thing I noticed: Faith calls out Buffy's name and pushes her out the window before Buffy can take down Gigi. Was Faith trying to stop Buffy or was she trying to save Buffy's life? You can see Roden in the back, ready with a spell before they crash through the window.

So it's said that Gigi will bring about the end of the world. When Faith learns Gigi wants to kill Buffy she believes Giles' intention to kill Gigi is just to save Buffy's life. I wonder if Giles actually knew Gigi is planning to kill Buffy? I think if he did knew, he would kill Gigi himself because it is personal. But it seems like all he knows is that Gigi is evil and abusing her powers and she needs to be stopped before the world can end. I suppose all will be revealed in the next issue.

Also, I think if Giles had known Buffy's life was in danger he would have the decency to tell her. Not that he would tell her he plans to kill a girl because Buffy wouldn't totally protest. Buffy's line, "Get me Giles!" says so much. It's now obvious Giles has been working on his own and not telling the others what he's been up to. It seems he doesn't want to share the burden the Watchers Council left behind. Is he protecting the new Slayers from having to do horrible deeds like murder or is he isolating himself? Giles totally needs more page time than just a panel. More questions are being raised rather than being answered. But I can't wait to see Buffy confront Giles about sending Faith on an undercover mission. I found the disagreement they had in "Lies My Parents Told Me" was resolved too easily and they should still have trust issues. Or maybe they do still have trust issues and that's why Buffy has distanced herself from Giles or vice versa.

I don't believe Buffy's statement that Giles never trusted Faith. Faith and Giles have a lot in common; they haven't bonded like Faith and Angel have, but that deeper understanding is there. Plus, Giles is asking Faith to kill a human being. That takes a lot of trust. Maybe this will play into the Buffy/Giles confrontation that hopefully is coming in the next issue. But more Giles please. Perhaps a whole arc for him? To fill in the gaps between Chosen and now.

And I'm excited to learn that after Faith's arc is done Joss gets the next two issues and then Drew Goddard gets to start his run. It'll be great to see the old Buffy writers back in the game. :-D

: Okay, I just found out that season eight is set a year and half after Chosen. Year and a half! So there's a year and a half worth of stories just waiting to be told. I had just assumed that three months had passed, as usual between Buffy seasons. Well, I guess this explains how all the Slayers got organized. And I guess within that year and a half stuff happened, perhaps also explaining the attitudes and situations of the gang. Okay, making total sense now.
