Yay, Torchwood's back

Whoo hoo, Torchwood is back. :-D Good to see the team back together.

So it's never said, but how long was Jack gone? From the way the team acts it feels like months. If Jack joined the Doctor and Martha before Saxon was Prime Minister and came back after he got elected, how long would that be? I guess you can toss in a few more days after things are set right on the Valiant, plus the team was sent on that wild goose chase up in the Himalayas. Doesn't really matter in the end. Gwen rallied the team and they seemed to be working together quite nicely in Jack's absence. I'm surprised Owen didn't try to take command. Or he probably tried and Gwen kicked his ass. ;-) I'm endless amused for no reason by the sight of Ianto running around and chasing aliens in his nice crisp suit. Who says you can't look dapper and save the city at the same time?

But let's talk about the big hype at the centre of the episode: James Marsters! Much happiness to see him. I bet there was a lot of happy squeeing at the Torchwood offices the day that deal got signed. I appreciate that his character has ties to Jack and we learn a little more about Jack in the process. Not much, but it sets up a nice mystery and a possible re-appearance by Captain John Hart. Is the JH thing a coincidence or do all Time Agents choose a name with the initials JH? I wouldn't mind finding out more about the Time Agency and why there are only seven Time Agents left, but that doesn't feel like a story they would tell on Torchwood; more of a Doctor Who story. Unless Captain John comes back and regales the team with a story. Also, not that I wanted to see this exclusively, but I thought John and Jack would have more than a good snog. I heard and read all these stories and articles saying James and John had a, um, steamy scene. Or are they saying that for a later appearance and everyone can join in? Captain John did use the word orgy at one point.

As for the rest of the episode, I think it was just an excuse to spend some time with the team. Gwen reveals she's engaged to Rhys (aw), Owen and Tosh discuss relationships (poor girl still has a giant crush on him), and Jack asks Ianto out on a date. It seems that Gwen will tell Rhys about Torchwood, going off the "Coming Soon" trailer, but I would hate it if it's revealed she only said yes because she can't have Jack or something. Gwen does say about Rhys, "He's the only one who'll have me" so it does feel she's just grabbing onto what's familiar. Does Jack feel something for Gwen? They're certainly hinting it.

Did they get a new conference room set? Looks like this one is in the lower levels. The set also looks like they took the Valiant set and made it smaller. And what is that device Tosh has? It appeared out of nowhere and seemed to do everything. It scans, it analyzes, it triangulates cell phone signals in three seconds! The Rift seemed really active, too, but I guess that's what you get after you open it.

Did Captain John say, "I found Grey" at the end? It's hard to make out what the characters are saying sometimes. Well, whoever Captain John found, it obviously means something to Jack. This it what makes me believe James Marsters will be back. How else will Jack, and us, learn more about this Grey person.

I found it odd they tacked on a "Coming Soon" trailer rather than a preview for the next episode, but it was neat to see what's coming. Can't wait to see how Martha fits in.
