CCEE 2015: Sunday or God Bless Hayley Atwell

Well, CCEE is over for another year. Wow, that was a long weekend. I want to spend the rest of the week sleeping.

At least today was a less hectic day. The first thing I had to do was get Hayley Atwell's photo at 11:30, so I had a chance to sleep in a little. They actually started the photo session early and that kept happening all weekend. I think the expo wanted to get everyone off the grounds before the hockey fans started rolling in for the first Flames home playoff game. As is always the case, the photo-op went by really fast. So I stood next to Hayley for all of two seconds, thanked her, and then ran out to collect my photo.

It was straight to Hayley's panel after that, and I must say, she is amazing. So funny. She's already an old pro at answering questions. Every answer was well thought out and even if she got an awkward question, which only happened once, she managed to spin it into a decent response. Actually, a good chunk of the people who asked questions were women, but there were a few guys towards the end.

The first question came from a little boy who asked her why she's so serious in the show and Hayley replied it's because Peggy works with jerks men and it's so frustrating because she's always waiting for them to catch up. I doubt the little boy really understood the answer, but the rest of the audience certainly enjoyed it. :-) She also mentioned that the producers will hear about a season two of Agent Carter in about three weeks. Fingers crossed that it gets renewed. And my god, Hayley sounds like such a hoot to have around on set. On the set of Agent Carter, she and James D'Arcy used to play games of Chicken on rolling office chairs in their downtime; they stopped because Hayley was getting bruises on her shins and the producers weren't looking very happy with them. She had another story from the set of the first Captain America movie. So in the scene when Steve is running after a bad guy in bare feet, Chris Evans had these prosthetics to go over his own feet and legs to protect them. Well, Hayley decided to pull on a pair and walk around in them while still in her Peggy costume and no one noticed that she was wearing them. She couldn't decide if people were just oblivious or if people thought that her legs actually looked like beefy man legs. She also said that Peggy touching Steve's man boob was her idea. Because no one, man or woman, would be able to resist grabbing Chris Evans' chest. :-)

She also had some wonderful insight on Peggy's fighting style. Since Peggy so British and reserved all the time, the fight scenes are the only time when she can really let loose, so that's why they're a bit messy and not all back flips and luchador take downs. But the fights also showcase how clever Peggy is. She can take items in the space around her, like a stapler, and use them as weapons. I hadn't really thought about it that way; it was just amusing seeing Peggy beat a guy into submission with a stapler. She also hopes that Dottie will be back for future seasons, that it will be good for Peggy to have a female nemesis who will challenge her. And Peggy backstory! Hayley wants that too and I couldn't agree more with her. I really want to know how Peggy came to be such a good fighter. And she's totally on board with bringing Steve onto the show through flashbacks or dream sequences. From the sound of things, Hayley has a lot of input into the show, so I hope these ideas get back to the writers.

Oh, and people tried to get the scoop on The Avengers: Age of Ultron from her, but no luck. She wouldn't even confirm if she was in the movie, but her name's on the poster, so she clearly is. But it's also rumoured that Peggy is showing up in Ant-Man? Wha? I hadn't heard that. Do we get a flashback to when Hank Pym and Howard Stark are younger? I would freak out if there's a flashback and Peggy's in it. Hayley also joked that Peggy has some of the Super Soldier serum stashed away and she injected herself with it, but she quickly shot down the thought because we see elderly Peggy in The Winter Soldier. But it's so awesome that even Hayley Atwell has thought about Peggy being Captain America. Guh, ABC better renew Agent Carter. Everyone agreed: Peggy Carter is the hero and role model we've all been waiting for.

And I mentioned it briefly in a separate post, but here's the picture Ming-Na took of me yesterday:

She posted the picture on Twitter, along with two other photos of Melinda May cosplayers. The three are her "top picks", but I have a sneaking suspicion that we were the only three Melindas at the expo.

Hey, I wonder if the comic book expo was Ming-Na and Hayley's first Canadian convention. Man, I seriously want to follow around Ming-Na and Hayley to the various cons they do just to listen to them and soak in their awesomeness.

The last thing I did today was get my photo with Arthur Darvill. Here's a tip: if you give Arthur something to hold, he will do something funny with it. He won't just hold it and smile at the camera. I gave him a mini TARDIS to hold and he ended up looking perplexed at it, like "Who shrunk the TARDIS?" This is either a good or bad thing. He's doing something interesting, but at the same time, he's not looking at the camera. So if you can do something goofy at the same time, great, but if you can't, it's a little weird. But I'm glad he doesn't just stand there.

And I wish I had stayed for Robbie Amell's panel because Stephen Amell showed up to moderate it. Hopefully it ends up on YouTube. Now he's at the Flames game. I hope the Flames win, just so Stephen has a good time and he can cap off a great weekend.

So yeah, overall, a fun weekend. I'm seriously considering heading up to Edmonton for their expo in September. I just want an expo where I don't have to run around like a crazy person. I rarely get a chance to hang out with my cosplay friends and take pictures. Running around getting autographs and photo-ops shouldn't be the only thing I care about.

Oh, and I totally forgot that Orphan Black premiered on Saturday. Time to play catch up.

No you/Arthur Darvill photo op pic so we can see his perplexed look for ourselves?

I didn't feel like taking a picture of the picture, but I can if you are curious.
