So this turned out to be more like a Companion-lite episode, rather than a Doctor-lite episode. And I totally didn't realize this episode was based on a comic-strip from the Doctor Who magazine.

I have to admit, I kind of look forward to the double bank episode. The restraint of having to film two episodes at once always forces the the show to come up with a unique story so the Doctor, or the Companion, isn't around a whole lot. I mean, good stuff like "Blink" and "Midnight" came out of this. "The Lodger" was cute, maybe not "Blink" or "Midnight" calibre, but it was fun to see the Doctor trying to live like a normal bloke in a flat with a flat mate. And yes, naked Doctor.

I was kind of hoping the story would be about the Doctor trying to find a place to live for a bit while he waited for the TARDIS to come back, but obviously you got to have some sort of danger, so the Doctor doesn't pick Craig's flat at random. Sounds like the original story, from the comic, was more like this. Is the original story posted anywhere? I wouldn't mind reading it. But anyway, big trouble upstairs and the Doctor's got to stop it. But in the meantime, he totally ingrains himself in Craig's life. I liked how they played up how awesome the Doctor seemed compared to Craig and how the Doctor was seemingly taking over Craig's life. It was kind of like a romantic comedy, only with malfunctioning spaceships. I would have loved to see more scenes of the Doctor reacting the wrong way, like the scene after the football match. He totally goes off on that guy, saying he's the Doctor, the oncoming storm, no violence ever and oh, you were just talking about beating people in football. Whoops. Of course, Craig and Sophie get together in the end, but you're kind of rooting for them to anyway. At the same time, it's sort of a sad story for the Doctor. He has to leave this normal life of football, call centres, and keys behind. Craig giving him the set of keys at the end, knowing the Doctor will never come back, was a nice parting scene.

So, the ship on top of Craig's flat was a TARDIS? Or a TARDIS like ship? Definitely bigger on the inside. The console area sort of reminded me of Eight's layout, with the weird struts coming down. So what does this mean, exactly? The Doctor said, "Someone's been trying to build a TARDIS", so a race of aliens out there is trying their hand at building a time machine? That'd be an interesting thread to pick up. Maybe next season the Doctor could run into the wanna-be TARDIS makers. The aliens could be abusing time and he's got to fix things.

Oooh, Amy found her engagement ring. So the Doctor did pick it up. Does this mean Amy will start to remember? I hope so. Or she thinks the Doctor is going to propose to her. That would be funny, but less appealing.

Random: Ha, the Doctor wore number 11 on his jersey. Subtle, guy, subtle. I can see the icons now. And look at Matt Smith using his footballing skills. Totally didn't know he used to be super good until I watched that Confidential. Um, what happened to the Doctor doing a psychic exchange of information by putting his hands on either side of a person's face? Or was he in a rush this time and bumping heads was the only way? :-) But more glimpses of past Doctors! And I just love it when the Doctor builds these weird machines out of random crap. It's kind of what he does best.

Next week looks interesting. And there were shots from the last two episodes in the "Coming Soon" trailer that aired way back in January. Huh. The season is finishing a lot earlier than past seasons. I can remember still watching Doctor Who past Canada Day. Gosh, what will I do for the rest of the summer?
