Since I haven't picked up any new TV shows this season, I decided to re-watch some of my old favourites. I initially thought to revisit Justice League then a friend mentioned she was watching Gargoyles over from the start. The kid in me immediately went, "Yay, Gargoyles!" I loved that show as a kid. It's also the reason I love Keith David, at least, the reason I love his voice. So I was all ready to start watching Gargoyles again. Managed to watch the first episode and then I stumbled upon another oldie from my childhood...

Sailor Moon!

I think if you're a girl and are a certain age (around 25 - 30, I would say), then you probably have fond memories of this show, too. I can safely say it was the first show I really got obsessed about. Yes, it wasn't Buffy, but Sailor Moon. Though, really, the two shows are so similar it's no surprise I became obsessed with Buffy. ;-) Blonde teenager is told she's the chosen one and has to save the world from evil by a teacher/advisor with a British accent, but all the girl wants to do is be a normal girl. Said girl also is aided by a tall, dark, handsome and cryptic stranger and obviously the two of them end up together.

BTW, who else had a crush on Darien? I'm not alone, right? I hadn't realized that for the first ten episodes or so they had a different voice actor. The voice I remember fondly didn't appear until around episode eleven. Ditto for the voice actor for Serena. So at least I have one reason to keep watching. I want to hear the voices I remember from grade five.

It's funny how it can all come back to you while you're watching. I probably hadn't seen these episodes since YTV aired them back in the day, but I can still remember stuff. Not lines necessarily, but just images and other weird things. Like, last night I was watching one and I suddenly had a vivid memory of writing down the titles of each episode. I couldn't remember why I was writing down the titles, but I just had this picture in my head of this crumpled piece of loose leaf with a list of episode names. And after a bit of digging, I found the list! It was in the binder where I kept my Sailor Moon trading cards and other related stuff. It's little things like that which can make a re-watch worthwhile.

And speaking of that binder, there wasn't just trading cards in there. When the show first came out, the Internet was still this newfangled thing that only a select few had. I remember only one friend of mine had Internet access and I used to go over to her house and surf the web for Sailor Moon sites. The sites were so basic back then, but to me, it was the awesomest thing ever. I still have the pages and pictures I printed out. How sad is that. :-)

The only downside to watching Sailor Moon again? I can't get the dang theme song out of my head. And no surprise, I have a Sailor Moon soundtrack. Yup, I'm a geek.
