I think I need an icon that says "Video Gamer Hermit" or something.
Finished playing Dragon Age II this morning. Took me about two weeks or so, which places it between Jade Empire (one week, twice!) and Mass Effect 2 (three weeks) for speediness of completion. So you can see why I haven't posted anything in awhile. Most of my free time went into finishing the game. The story's pretty sprawling, so I'd say two weeks is pretty good. Lots of late nights and entire afternoons just gone. It was fun, though. :-)
It's a BioWare game, so naturally I love it, but I think the sequel's more fun than the Dragon Age: Origins. The plot takes it time to tell the story, but it doesn't drag down the action at all. In fact, everything seemed faster; it took me less time to do things in DA2 than in DA:O. Or maybe it's just a perception thing, as it took me, like, a year to finish the first game but that was only because I gave up on it when I shouldn't have. In either case, I got into DA2 more. I don't know why they didn't start off the series with the main character, Hawke, when they released the first game. A main character who actually speaks the dialogue instead of being mute and emoting a lot is much more fun to play and watch.
The companions, the essential part of any BioWare game, started off kind of boring but I got to like them as the story went on and maybe that's the point. The plot is stretched out over ten years and that's longer than any game I've played so far. Hawke gets to know these people at the same rate I do and they become more likable the longer you know them. BioWare has always hired great sci fi actors to voice roles and I was happy to hear Eve Myles' voice coming out of one of the characters. It's the Welsh accent. It makes every word cute. I ended up really like her character, Merrill, and I hope they continue to hire more Whoverse actors. Mostly everyone in the Dragon Age world has an accent, so British accents would not be amiss. Arthur Darvill is an awesome voice actor, going off the audio books he's done (hint, hint, BioWare).
I'm waiting on a DLC to download for DA2; couldn't help myself. Hey, it's got Felicia Day as one of the main characters. You can't go wrong with that.
Oh, and to be girlie for a moment, I also found time to leave the house and bought a sweet pair of boots for the colder weather. Yay, productive on two fronts!
