I decided to start watching Arrow because, well, there's really not much on these days and I need something completely pointless to amuse me. :-) Until Doctor Who comes back, of course.
I watched Smallville from beginning to end when it was on the air so it's weird that I didn't start watching Arrow when it first premiered. Maybe I didn't want to get sucked into another superhero show that will never end. I think it's safe to say that Arrow is no Smallville and thank goodness. It is still a show about a hero at the start of his career, but that's the only similarity. Ollie's not worrying about emerging super powers or Kryptonite infected villains of the week or angsting about the girl next door.
No, wait, there's one more similarity. The show's filmed in Vancouver! Canadian actors everywhere! Oh, I miss that. I love seeing familiar Vancouver landmarks, too. Hell, Ollie and his family live in Lex Luthor's mansion from Smallville. I know there aren't a lot of castles in the area, but come on guys. But anyway...

As a time waster, Arrow fulfills its role. And by watching, I'm supporting local Canadian talent, so that's good, too. $10 on Michael Shanks showing up at some point to play another super hero. ;-)
