I haven't talked about Arrow for a while. Season finale was this week so I might as well as talk about that.

I will definitely be watching next season. The show really picked up momentum as the season went along. I guess the writers and producers found their groove. There was a really nice article about Arrow in the Entertainment Weekly a few weeks back (same issue that had the Doctor Who cover story) and I think they mentioned how they realized that not all of the main characters needed to be in every episode. That really helped, I think. Thea and Moria weren't shoehorned into every episode so that freed up the plot of episodes to focus more on Ollie and his crusade.

So, finale. Malcolm Merlyn, the Undertaking. Ollie needs to stop him. While Ollie beats Malcolm, half the Glades get demolished so there's really no winners here. And they killed Tommy! Or, I assume he's dead, him being impaled on a piece of rebar and all. Poor guy. He couldn't catch a break. He woos Laurel and they're all happy together, but everything just falls apart and then he learns that his dad is a crazy evil archer who wants to level the slums in the city. I seriously thought Laurel's dad was going to die, though. He got that big speech and everything. But I'm glad they didn't kill him off. I really like Paul Blackthorne. I'm sure Lance will kick the bucket at some point because he's seems more expendable than some of the other characters.

And I assume Thea made it out of the Glades. And I'm sure Roy is fine, too. They wouldn't just introduce such an important character of the Green Arrow mythos just to kill him off in an earthquake. I have no idea what's going on with Roy. He's Speedy in the comics, but Thea is nicknamed Speedy, too. Is one of them destined to be Ollie's partner? There's that quick moment when Thea knocks out that guy with the beer bottle and she says she must have wicked aim. A hint of things to come? I can get behind Roy becoming the official Speedy, but I doubt it will happen anytime soon. Ollie not a full blown hero yet.

Oh, and we all know that Felicity is fine despite the fact that the Arrow cave was spewing sparks behind her. She's joining the regular cast in season two, so unless she's joining as a ghost, she's perfectly fine. And did Ollie stab Malcolm through the heart? Because I really liked John Barrowman as the villain. It's so different from what I'm used to. And how did Laurel escape without breaking any bones? A huge chunk of concrete fell on her and she's able to run out of the building just fine. She'd be limping at the very least.

Meanwhile, back on the island, everything gets blown up. Obviously Ollie isn't going to escape the island anytime soon. That's one of the problem with the flashbacks. In the end, you know what happens to Ollie. I guess the real suspense is in what happens to everyone else. Slade and Shado are fine for now, but they either die or escape before Ollie is rescued. I wouldn't be surprised if Shado makes it off of the island. Because she and Ollie sort of have a thing going on. I wouldn't put it past the writers to have Ollie and Shado hook up and then back in the present day, she appears again but with a kid that's Ollie's. And hey, Shado does father a baby with Ollie in the comics, but through, let's say, a nontraditional method. And some mysterious lady is behind the whole operation? I'm not really familiar with DC villains, so it could be anyone.

Random: Look, Ferris Air. That means Carol Ferris exists in this universe. Does that mean Hal Jordan does too? And the fight between Ollie and Malcolm on the rooftop? You can totally see the clock tower that Smallville!Ollie lived in in the background. It's just coincidence, but it's still funny. I was never fond of the whole Ollie-Laurel-Tommy love triangle and with Tommy dead that leaves Ollie the chance to start dating Laurel, but if it's like the Clark/Lana relationship on Smallville where they sort of on again/off again, then I'm not interested. But we all know that Ollie and Laurel/Dinah end up together in the comics, so are they destined to be together on the show? If the writers decide to take a different path, I won't be offended. What I want to see is Laurel becoming Black Canary. :-) She doesn't need a sonic scream or anything, but she can fight crime with Ollie and he won't have to angst about putting his loved ones in harm's way. And can Laurel's mom show up again next season? I love how Laurel's parents are Harry Dresden and River Song. That's some pedigree.

Well, I have two comic book based TV shows to look forward to in the fall. Ooh, duelling super hero shows. DC versus Marvel.
