Only two more days until Doctor Who is back!
Took my femme!Four cosplay out for a test spin yesterday but sadly I didn't get any pictures. Bought a cheap ass fedora (thank you, Spirit Halloween) just before the Doctor Who screening so aside from some minor things, the costume is pretty much done. But my god, I was sweating. Thank goodness the theatre was cool.
The screening was all right. The 3D really didn't add anything to the episodes, though the opening credits did look pretty rad. This is the problem you have when you convert something after the fact. I mean, if you know going in that the final product will be in 3D, you can film accordingly, but these episodes weren't filmed with 3D in mind. So you end up with an episode with some depth to the images but no, "ooh, awesome" moments. All the more reason that Doctor Who needs to do another, proper 3D episode. :-)
But the prequel. It actually did its job. It was funny and entertaining and leaves you with just enough questions that you're eager to watch the premiere. Or maybe I was just really happy to see some new content. Best line. "Twelve is my lucky number." Subtle, Moffat, subtle. Actually, is it a prequel? I just watched the season nine prologue and the Doctor mentions meditating on a rock, which is presumably what he's trying to do in "The Doctor's Meditation". So it's an in-between-quel? Anyway, who is this person that the Doctor is reluctant to see?
Then they topped it off with that Wil Wheaton interview (I could tell he did the interview during Comic Con from the clothes; is that sad?). I had forgotten they were doing that. He is such a fanboy and I'm glad they chose someone who knows their stuff to interview Peter and Jenna. I felt bad for Jenna, though. Wheaton put most of the questions to Peter and she didn't have much to say. Peter, though. Man, I love his interviews. He's so passionate about the role.
We also get an explanation for that shot from the trailer, the one with the Doctor and his electric guitar. We will get to see him playing it throughout the season. When I initially saw that shot, I wasn't too sure about it, but once Peter explained that it was an idea he floated past Moffat and how he got to choose the guitar, I was on board. I always love it when shows take advantage of the skills an actor already possesses. I just hope it's not a cheap gimmick. Like, I don't want to see the Doctor solving a problem by plugging the guitar into the TARDIS and playing some power chords. I would love to see Clara walking into the TARDIS and catching the Doctor rocking out, though.
Oh, and I didn't think Jenna and Peter were Game of Thrones fans, but they are. I'm glad they're being super mysterious about Maisie Williams' character, in that, I don't want to be spoiled. The character could be a hit or she could falter, but I don't want any hints going in. For some reason, I want her character to be a regenerated Jenny, but that's just me taking the "What took you, old man" line literally. Wait, Peter said to read up on regeneration. Is that where it might come into play?
If I wasn't excited already for season nine, I'm super excited now. :-)
