Well, this is unexpected:
Doctor Who spin-off for teens announced.
So it's set in the Whoverse, but doesn't feature any established characters. The article on io9.com goes on to mention that the show will be set at Coal Hill School, so that will be the only familiar bit.
Huh? Doctor Who can't even do a full season of 13 episodes but now they have the time and money to do an addtional 8, 45 minute long episodes? I mean, yeah, there's been a hole since The Sarah Jane Adventures went off the air, but this seems really random. And why no characters we've met before? Why not have Courtney or Maebh or Ruby or Samson or Bradley? So confused.
At least they have a good writer on board. Patrick Ness is an awesome YA writer. His Chaos Walking trilogy is amazing and I highly recommend it. Hopefully that brillance will transfer to the medium of TV.
I hope this doesn't mean that we're not getting a full season of Doctor Who next year. Hey, maybe they could work in K9 somehow? Moffat said in a recent interview that he nearly worked him in to "Last Christmas" so there's still love for everyone's favourite tin dog.
