Rory returns to find Amy asleep on the sofa. It’s been a long month for both of them and it shows. Being displaced in time will do that to you.

Not wanting to disturb her, he leaves their meagre living room to grab a blanket from their equally meagre bedroom. The flat isn’t much, but it’s better than living out on the street. He removes the blanket from the bed and returns to the living room. Rory drapes the blanket over Amy but not before he notices the notebook held loosely in her hand.

He should just pull it free and close it, but he’s seen the drawings on the pages and his curiosity is peaked. He’d recognize Amy’s style anywhere.

The notebook is full of drawings of the Doctor. Amy has drawn him in numerous poses, but he appears morose in all of them, even if he’s smiling. Rory continues to flip and he soon he see sketches of River. She stands proud and defiant, a splitting image of her mother even if they don’t look alike. All of the drawings are remarkably detailed. Amy has worked hard on these.

Rory’s near the end of the notebook when Amy suddenly stirs. She stares at him, bleary-eyed, and has to blink a few times before her vision comes into focus.

Rory knows she could have stayed behind with the Doctor. It wouldn’t have bothered him if she had. He would have gone to his grave, content with the thought that the Doctor would look after her. But this is Amy Pond. She risked everything by letting the last Weeping Angel touch her even when there was no guarantee that she would end up in the same time and place as him. Words cannot describe how much Rory loves his wife.

He leans over to kiss her on the lips. When they part, he puts the notebook back into her hands. Amy meets his gaze but she doesn’t have to say anything for Rory to understand why she has drawn the two people who matter the most to them. If he had her ability to capture life on a blank page, he would do the same.

“I miss them, too.”
