I'm perhaps not representative of men (after all, Buffy was also a favorite of mine!), but for me the fact that it's set in the 40s is a much bigger stumbling block than a female lead. I'm not a huge fan of period stuff unless the period is in the future.
Still, it seems to be mostly holding my interest so far, even if I was a bit distracted for the premiere, I'm going to keep watching it.

It really does feel like an undead Veronica Mars from the trailer.
I'm not quite sure yet if that's a good thing or a bad thing.
