Sigh, the first season of Agent Carter is done. I really, really, really hope that ABC renews it for a second season. The world needs more kick ass characters like Peggy.

I expected the season to end with Peggy forming S.H.I.E.L.D. with Howard, but with the way they left things, that seems like something they would do at the end of the second season. Maybe the whole Zodiac thing from the Agent Carter one-shot can be the arc for next season? It's a glowly object, after all, and we all know Marvel loves the glowy MacGuffin. And there's still room for Bradley Whitford's character to show up and to start running the SSR, especially now that Dooley is dead. Because the Marvel One-Shots are canon. The Agent Carter one must still happen.

It took me a while to sort out the whole Leviathan thing, but it makes sense in the end. Fennhoff was the one behind it the whole time. I assume he was the one at the other end of the magic typewriter. Seems like we might see more of Leviathan in the future, but they do sow the seeds for HYDRA's return as well. I read that there are hints that Fennhoff was involved in the Winter Soldier program since it uses mind control, and apparently HYDRA already referenced him (something about the Faustus Method) on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. It was so awesome that they snuck in Doctor Zola at the very end. We all know he ends up infiltrating S.H.I.E.L.D. so we'll hopefully get to see that arc unfold in the future. It's kind of sad, really. Peggy and Howard will build up this organization to keep the peace, but it's already rotting from the inside. That's part of the joy of Agent Carter. You actually get to see some of the events that have been referenced in the movies.

On the other hand, there is one inherent problem with setting a show in the past. If you've already seen the future of that timeline then you know certain people do not die until a certain point. So you know Jarvis doesn't shoot down Howard's plane because Howard needs to be around in like thirty years time to be Tony's dad. You know Dottie doesn't kill Peggy because Peggy is alive and well into her 90s. One assumes Jarvis won't die any time soon since he needs to be around to look after a young Tony. Of course, I'm basing that on the notion that Tony named J.A.R.V.I.S. after the real Jarvis, so for Tony to have known the real Jarvis, the real Jarvis would have to be around to leave an impression on Tony (I do love the idea of an older Jarvis basically raising a young Tony because Howard isn't around). So basically, Peggy is invincible. :-)

But there are still enough original characters around that there is some suspense. Do Sousa, Thompson, and Angie get to live long and happy lives? Who knows. Though, my pet theory is that the police officer that Enver plays in The Avengers is actually the grandson of Sousa. I know, I know, the two characters don't have to be related, it's just coincidence that it's the same actor, but it would be cool if they wrote that in somehow.

I had kind of hoped that Steve would show up, you know, in a flashback or something, but maybe that's something they would save for another season. I also wish they could do a flashforward, but that's what the movies and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. are for. It'd also be nice if they had a few more episodes next season. Eight episodes tell a very tight story but there's little room to breathe. Peggy deserved an episode where she could kick back and not have to worry about being a super spy.

Random thoughts: Of course Dottie didn't die. She only fell two storeys. That's nothing for a Black Widow. ;-) I love Sousa, and not just because I love Enver. He was the only one smart enough to wear earplugs when going up against Fennhoff. I really want him to be Mr. Peggy Carter. Peggy does have that little smile after he asks her out, so maybe she's considering that drink offer? And I actually noticed when he put his crutch aside to ask her out. On the one hand, it's sweet; he wants to stand up on his own when he asks her out. On the other hand, does it make him shallow? That he doesn't want to appear as the cripple in front of Peggy? I totally wanted Peggy to hug Jarvis at the end, but Jarvis doesn't seem like the hugging type. I'm not sure how they would work him in to a second season. If Peggy has the resources of the SSR at her disposal, why would she need a butler? But I'm sure the writers would find a way. The two of them and their friendship was one of the best parts of the show. Perhaps Jarvis is Mr. Peggy Carter? I know he's married but maybe something bad happens to Anna? It's kind of weird that Peggy and Angie end up living in one of Howard's houses, but, hey, why not. And man, Howard imagined a really ugly outfit for Peggy to wear in his hallucination. What was up with the fur muffler?

At least we'll get to see Peggy in The Avengers: Age of Ultron.
