Look at your LJ userpics list. If you have fewer than 50 icons, pick every fifth one. If you have between fifty and seventy-five icons, pick every seventh one. If you have over seventy-five icons, pick every tenth one. If you have fewer than ten, pick all of 'em. List them on your LJ, and tell everyone exactly why you have it, why it's interesting to you, what significance does it have.

I'm going to try all fifteen. No guarantees that each icon will have an interesting story. ;-)

For all my icons, I use them in their relative fandoms when discussing said fandoms. This sort of limits me though since I sometimes feel I only have five icons instead of fifteen.

1) I made this icon for the official Browncoat posting board when it still existed and you could earn points for creating icons. I didn't submit it though and instead kept it for myself. I was still learning how to make icons back then so it's not my best effort, but I like the shading I put into it. One side of River is dark while the other is light; it goes with the caption of "unbalanced", which I think describes River as a character. I also like to think of myself as unbalanced sometimes so it makes for a nice default icon. :-D

2) Another early Browncoat posting board icon. This one was inspired by my Chinese classes. I was still in my first year of Chinese and I was given this program that gives you the character if you type in the English word or the pinyin. The Chinese translates, I hope, into "I am a Browncoat". It was a bitch cutting out the characters in Photoshop since the characters are so skinny but I think the characters go with the grittiness of the icon. I like using this icon whenever I'm discussing something Nathan Fillion related or something Firefly fandom related.

3) This icon was my first attempt at making a multi-frame icon. I learned that in order to keep the size of the icon down you sometimes have to sacrifice colour and picture quality so this icon has some diffusion going on to keep the size under 40KB. I'm fond of it since I made it for Buffy's tenth anniversary and it shows the evolution of Buffy through the seasons.

4) A simple Jayne icon. I had made one similar for the Canadian Browncoats website. This is my all purpose rant icon; I usually use it when I want to rant about TV shows. The text, as all good Canadians will know, comes from the rant made famous by the Molson's commercials. Jayne's hat is a toque. I will not believe otherwise. :-D

5) My second attempt at a multi-frame icon. I made the screencaps myself. The Angel ones were a bit difficult since I can only cap .avi files. The inspiration for the icon comes from a comment made by new Doctor Who executive producer Russell T Davies in a podcast commentary. In one episode the CGI to create a villain was looking to be very expensive. Some of the other, cheaper options they threw out there included a little girl a la the girl in the White Room. At this point in the commentary, Russell T Davies cracks up with laughter at the thought. It just shows what a big Joss Whedon fan he is. I like this icon since it's so random. It's also good for two fandoms so I get more mileage out of it.

6) This icon is made by [livejournal.com profile] newnumber6. It's a scene from the second Doctor Who Christmas special, The Runaway Bride. If you're a fan of the show, you know it's a wonderful scene since the Doctor is so full of angst at that moment. I like how bad ass the Doctor looks. :-)

7) Icon by [livejournal.com profile] blueanddollsome. When I first joined LJ I was out looking for some Buffy icons and stumbled upon blueanddollsome's journal. I just really liked the way Buffy looks in this icon. And through this icon I made friends with blueanddollsome and by extension, lorelei_frolick.

8) Another early icon making attempt. The Chinese characters stand for "strength" and it matches the scene the screencap is taken from. I like using this icon when friends need some encouragement.

9) Icon by [livejournal.com profile] elizalavelle. One of the best Giles scenes ever. It's also one of my favourite Giles lines. I find that the line is really funny, at least for me, because I'm Canadian. I'm sure if Giles was mocking Canadians, it'd be a beaver that raises the dead. :-D

10) Icon by [livejournal.com profile] xerya. Xerya makes very pretty icons. That's all I have to say really about this one.

11) I needed more Doctor Who icons and made this one. The text down the middle reads "Our time will never come again" from Song for Ten. Your basic Ten/Rose angst icon. I use this one when there's some Doctor and Rose discussing happening.

12) Further experiments in icon making by me. I can't tell if I'm getting better or worse. Helpless is one of my favourite Buffy episodes so I figured it deserved an icon.

13) I realized all my Buffy icons so far had only been of Buffy so I made this one of the gang really quickly. Nothing special about it. It's just a nice picture of the Scooby Gang at the end of Chosen, ready to set off for bigger adventures.

14) This icon was custom made to go with my Doctor Who/Firefly crossover fic "A Different Kind of Companion". It also has a matching banner. I started writing the fic and for some reason I felt the need to make a graphic to go along with it. People really seem to like it and for whatever reason, Ten and Inara look so nice together.

15) Icon by [livejournal.com profile] atellix. Atellix also makes very pretty icons. This one caught my eye because of the caption. Loneliness is very much a part of the Doctor's character. The white out effect from the episode is also captured nicely.

Fun meme! :D

Ten and Inara *do* look scarily good together. They're both just so pretty!

I love that there exists a commentary wherein RTD references the girl in the white room. Do you think he's also familiar with Firefly? Gah! There are just so many things I'd ask him. *G*

It's probably the reason I can't stop making icons/banners of Ten and Inara. I made a banner to go with my [livejournal.com profile] sonic_tea fic. I'm unsure if that's a good thing or a sign of an obsession. ;-)

Well, Ten does wear a brown coat. I think that's evidence enough. :-D But for sure, Russell T Davies is a Buffy fan. In the commentary for "Love and Monsters" he makes a reference to episode "The Zeppo" and I read in a Starlog that he used to phone up Julie Gardner and they would talk about the latest Buffy episode. How awesome is that?
