I was all ready to be annoyed that it came out a week early but Scott Allie explained why in the back so I'm less annoyed. In fact, moving on from annoyed and onto impressed. With Buffy being a comic now, Joss can do a lot more things than he could on the show. Besides having bigger and cooler fights and places, it also allows him to tell a different kind of story, like The Chain.

I mean, when was there ever a story where Buffy didn't appear at all? The comic allows for a larger part of the whole to be told. There's more to this world than Buffy and the Scoobies. Her one decision changed the lives of thousands of girls and they each have a story. That was the thing I liked most about The Chain. This nameless girl takes up this huge responsibility and she never even gets to meet Buffy.

It was good to see Vi again, even if it was just for a page. Nice to know Joss hasn't forgotten about the other girls. The TV ad with her and Andrew was a stroke of genius. So cheesy that you know Andrew was probably the one who came up with the idea but at the same time very smart. Because how are you going to contact all of these girls without sounding like a crazy person? Turns out you don't. You get the girls to come to you. At the same time, the girls come in on their own. It seems like none of them were forced to become part of Buffy's army. There's one very nice panel where you see the girl hugging another Slayer. You can see huge relief on her face (well, it looked like relief to me) when she sees she not alone. There's also the return of the Slayer with the punk pink hair who'd rather fight with guns. I hope that leads to something.

My only complaint about this issue is that we don't get a further idea of what the gang has been up to since the destruction of Sunnydale. Giles makes a quick appearance though. It sounds like he travels between the different contingents, giving the girls the lowdown about their powers and heritage. I got the feeling he doesn't stay long. The girl doesn't know his name, only that he's well-known to the Slayer world. In the next arc, I wonder if we'll see if Giles has been raised to the level of celebrity along with Buffy and the others.

I can't wait for Faith's arc. I also can't wait to see how Brian K Vaughn's style of writing fits in with the Buffyverse. His wit is very similar to Joss'.
