Yay, my photo-op ticket for Tahmoh came in the mail today! I'm one step closer to an awkward encounter with him. I solemnly swear to
ninamazing that I will say, "You're really tall" to him. ;-) So, I have my weekend pass, and my two photo-op tickets, one for Jewel and one for Tahmoh.
But I've come to realize that going to cons ain't for the penny pinching kind. You either spend lots of money or you don't go. Because after the pass, if you're so inclined, there are photo-ops and then you got to get the photo-op autographed and that's an additional fee. So people who attend multiple cons within a year just astound me. Actually, I astound myself, considering I'm going to two cons this year. Man, I'm going to be broke by the end of April.
At the same time, I think it's worth it. Yes, sometimes when you're a geek you get taken advantage of because you're willing to shell out the cashy money for the things you love, but it's the love of fandom that makes geekdom worth while. I always find it awkward trying to discuss fandom with regular people, so it's nice to have a week or weekend, whatever the case may be, where you can hang out with likeminded fans.
And you get to meet fandom actors. Let's not forget that. :-D

Damn straight! You preach it. I always feel pathetic spending so much for cons, but you're right. There's just nothing more heartwarming and fabulous than getting to mindmeld with a bunch of awesome fans.

Date: 2009-03-06 03:49 am (UTC)It's the Stargate one that's really going to cost me. There are people who go to it every year. But it'll be nice to say, "Oh yeah, I visited the sets and met so-and-so."
And I just wanted to let you know I won't be around in chat tomorrow. Going to see Watchmen. Sorry I keep disappearing.

Date: 2009-03-06 03:53 am (UTC)I always think to myself, "Oh, I won't go to the con this year", but then they get awesome guests and I really do care. My friends don't love fandom like I do, so it's nice to see an exhibition hall full of other fans. Part of fandom is being able to enjoy yourself and cons let you do that.
