I seriously hope this is the last time I will have to move buildings while working on my current project for work. This makes four in the year and a bit I've been with the company, and three just in the last six months. I'm not overly fond of change so this hasn't exactly been enjoyable. I can't tell you how many times I've packed and unpacked the project documents, but too many for my tastes.

Today felt like the first day of school as everyone got settled. It's not often the whole project has to move. Usually it's just a handful of people or maybe a couple of floors, but this time all of us had to go (it's like a clearance sale!). Everyone was totally lost as they tried to find their offices, the kitchen, the bathroom, etc. It was like being a freshman at university again. I think I was the only one who wasn't confused since I had visited the floor a week earlier to unpack crap. I wouldn't say I was amused, but I got unpacked and back to work a lot quicker than others did. :-)

I'm back in an office, not a cubicle, but I have to share it with a guy I barely know. He's nice and all, but I would have preferred to be on my own. Now I can't write while working. :-( I actually worked today. Shocking. But it's a decent office; it doesn't face east, so no rising sun in your face like my last spot.

If I ever see another moving bin, it'll be too soon.

pretend you're composing an email? or really compose an email, just to yourself (... you can write it to me if you want?) and write your fic in there? or write in an excel sheet? no one likes to look at other people's excel sheets. they're intimidating.

I used to do that, the fake e-mail, to do my writing, but it started to look suspicious. I would have this incredibly long e-mail which never seemed to end despite the fact I had been writing it all day. I also didn't want to leave any evidence that I was writing when I should have working so I switched to writing in Word and saving the document to a USB stick. I even password protected it (see, paranoid).

I'll have to see how things work out. It seems my office buddy is due to leave the project in three weeks, but someone else could easily fill his spot in the office.

So what are you doing for your birthday? Are you going to have a birthday/housewarming?

That sounds dreadful. Moving in anyway shape or form sucks but moving work stuff repeatedly? UGH.

I had to unpack all of the project documents on my own this time, and man, I could barely lift anything after I was done. It hurt to pick something up. Now that's a sign that you're working way too hard.

Slip in some geeky references to your idle chitchat with your officemate. Maybe he's a geek too, and worried you're going to make it hard for _him_ to write while he's supposed to be working! ;)

He's not a geek. I mentioned that I saw District 9 on the weekend and he was all "Which movie is that?" So I don't see myself having lengthy conversations with this guy. ;-)

But he does go out for lunch every day, so I potentially have an hour to myself to write.
