I also considered "Or How I Shot Past 50,000 Words While Waiting to Watch Doctor Who".

Seriously, why am I not watching it yet?!

So yeah, I'm done. 53,415 words in total. My neck hurts and my fingers are cold.

But I have a novel! A very crappy novel that totally wanders in the middle because I had no idea what I was writing, but a novel nonetheless. My first year of NaNoWriMo and I made it! Well ahead of schedule, too. That I didn't do on purpose. I just really got into a groove and I just kept going. It was kind of fun, just writing. No thinking whether what you're writing is crap, no second guessing yourself, no going back to edit. I'll have to do that next, editing, but I might wait a few days. I need to regain my sanity first. ;-)

Probably helps that I was writing while waiting for the episode to come in. So it made the time fly. It was like a mad dash though. Once I hit 50,000 I was like "Damn it. I can't stop there. I should finish this thing."

Now I don't have to spend every waking hour writing. ;-)

Yeah, it was the same with me a couple years ago when I did a more real NaNo (didn't sign up for the site, but working on a novel). Technically finished, then a bit more writing to wrap it up. Of course, in mine it was deliberately serialized, so it was okay to end with much of it unresolved, so long as the major plot points of that "book" had been.

I wanted to finish the story regardless of where I was, but I was ready to pack it in after 50,000. I was so tired, which is stupid because I just sat for like the whole day. But I guess I was mentally exhausted after writing like 10,000 words over two days. Thank goodness for Doctor Who. I got to veg in front of my TV.
