Oh man. Much Music just started showing reruns of Buffy. Be still my geeky heart when I saw five episodes were on today. Considering March 10, Buffy's anniversary date, was just a few days ago, this just seemed right. I haven't watched my DVDs in a long time, so it was fun, seeing episodes I hadn't seen in a long time. It's funny how much you can remember. Lines just started coming back to me and I was grinning like an idiot.
But I noticed something while watching "Welcome to the Hellmouth" that might have been a hint about something in season eight. The identity of a certain someone...
I missed out on the whole Twilight-gate thing, so I had no idea who Twilight really was going into issue #33. The reveal that he's actually Angel was, well, odd. I thought Angel wasn't allowed to appear in the Buffy comics. Or maybe that was just a lie told by Joss. In either case, I didn't see it coming. But maybe there were hints buried along the way. Case in point:

A panel from issue #1. Ooh, mysterious floaty feet. Turns out they belonged to Twilight. Our first glimpse of him. I remember reading in various places that people thought the feet belonged to Spike. Close, but no cigar.

And a screenshot from "Welcome to the Hellmouth". Of Angel's feet. The first thing we see of him in fact. A vague hint of Twilight's true identity for the truly devoted fan? Or is the similar framing just a coincidence? I'm still convinced that the reveal that Twilight is Angel is a fake out, but this is Joss, the man who hinted at Buffy's death two years in advance. If he actually did plan this, having the panel echo the first shot we see of Angel, then I'm impressed.
Crazy notions aside, I really want to start watching my Buffy DVDs again. Reading the comics just isn't the same as watching the show.
