Sometimes second parts can make the first part better and you get a great episode as a whole. Yeah, not so much here. The plot still didn't make any sense. They were right about that cliffhanger though.
Huh, so Amy was pregnant all along. It just wasn't Amy all along. At least that explains how we went from Amy thinking she was pregnant to Amy claiming it was a mistake. So real Amy probably disappeared and was swapped with Flesh!Amy during that three month gap. Finally, a decent reason to have that three month gap. So Flesh!Amy was still connected to real Amy who was pregnant and that's why the TARDIS couldn't lock down whether Amy was pregnant or not? Then of course it raises the question of why and who replaced Amy with a clone. Somebody needs that baby for something. Ugh, it's all so horribly timey-wimey. If the little girl in "The Impossible Astronaut"/"Day of the Moon" is Amy's daughter then how the heck does she end up in 1969 stuck inside a spacesuit? I can see someone wanting to breed a Time Lord/human hybrid for nefarious reasons, but this all seems very involved. I kind of doubt the rest of the season will be "The Doctor and Rory search for Amy", but I'm sure they'll end up searching for Amy's baby since that's the sci fi trope when it comes to kids. Though, it would be interesting to see just the Doctor and Rory travelling, trying to track down Amy.
Anyway, the rest of the plot. I still found it to be a weak plot. Why does Flesh!Jennifer suddenly freak out and declare war? Normal Jennifer seemed like a nice, levelheaded person. I suppose there wouldn't be an episode without some conflict. I can understand that the Gangers would be scared but going around and killing people doesn't solve anything. I guess the ending was okay. In the end, Ganger, human, it doesn't matter. We're all people and we all deserve a right to exist. That bit with Jimmy and Flesh!Jimmy and his son was kind of nice and Flesh!Cleaves sacrifices herself as does Dickens.
The whole thing with the Flesh!Doctor didn't make much sense though. I'll probably need to re-watch the episode to get it all. I do get that the Doctor went to that island to talk to the Flesh and he made a second Doctor on purpose to gauge Flesh!Amy's reaction, but how come the Doctor seemed to know what would happen? I was expecting some big thing with the Flesh!Doctor and the Gangers teaming up to cause havoc but nothing really came of it. It was good fun seeing two Eleventh Doctors interacting with each other. Whoo, double the Matt Smith! And I did the enjoy the bit when Flesh!Doctor is trying to sort out all the different incarnations. He repeats a line from "An Unearthly Child" and of course there's "Reverse the polarity of the neutron flow". But they also worked in the voices from different Doctors! How weird was it to hear Four's and Ten's voice coming from Eleven? At least Flesh!Doctor wasn't the solution to the Doctor's death in "The Impossible Astronaut". Thank goodness.
I'm still not sure why Rory went running after Jennifer. I get that he opposes the mistreatment of the Flesh, but his connection with Jennifer wasn't that strong. And there are no repercussions from his siding with the Gangers. Amy isn't angry with him once they reunite. I guess there wasn't time and Amy's probably the forgiving type. One reason I would have bought for Rory trusting Jennifer so much is that she reminded him of someone he had met as Auton!Rory and had failed to save for some reason. At least Rory is properly angry once he realizes Flesh!Jennifer has strung him along. Rory needs more moments like that. Maybe we'll see that next week.
Random: Okay, were there two sonic screwdrivers? I mean, you have that one shot where the Doctor throws the sonic to the other Doctor and I thought that meant there was only one screwdriver. Suddenly both Doctors have a sonic screwdriver and this was before it was revealed that the Doctors swapped shoes. Was it mentioned that the Flesh could replicate technology, too? Also, I think I know why the ep really didn't work for me. The guest cast didn't really gel. If you're going to have a sizable guest cast they need some chemistry. And since when can the Doctor cure blood clots? He can zap away a blood clot but he doesn't have technology to bring back someone who's drowned?
I'm expecting a huge episode next week seeing as it's the mid-season finale. Hopefully we get some answers, but obviously new questions will be raised. When will the second half of the show be back? September?

Date: 2011-05-30 02:13 am (UTC)I wondered about crazyJen -- why were there three Jens? One original and TWO gangers? It made me wonder if CrazyGangerJen was a defective duplicate who had gotten enough of a jolt to get up and walk about when the storms hit. Or did the machine accidentally make another ganger when real Jen was in the harness?
I also think the doctor went into this with eyes wide open, and planned to make his ganger. What about the doctor going BACK into the flesh room and zapping the tub with the sonic? I mean when he went back in alone... is this a future doc, as in the angel episode?
I also think we're still missing something major here but I'm not sure what it is.
Did you realize Amy told the original doctor he was going to die, and she thought she was telling the duplicate? That was probably what the silent meant when he said she was going to tell him what he must know and what he must never know.
I also think the Silents are likely going through time backwards in some way, as River is meeting the doctor backwards (that is, their timelines are going in opposite directions). And I do think the child is River- not a time lord human hybrid, but a child formed, in embryonic stage (before Amy was kidnapped), IN the TARDIS, and thus affected by the TARDIS. So she is unique. And I'm sure those who have amy (I assume the Silents) are augmenting the baby. Does she go right from the womb to the space suit incubator? See- I'm guessing again, that she's the child in the suit, too. But I don't know any of this. I've decided to avoid spoilers so I'm going on guesses and spec.

Date: 2011-05-30 03:42 am (UTC)It's implied that the Flesh can grow so I think Flesh!Jennifer was able to duplicate herself and that's how we ended up with two Gangers of Jennifer when Rory confronts them. But I don't get how real Jennifer ended up so far away from her harness and the others. Did she wander off in a stupor and just collapsed?
I think you're right about the Doctor deliberately making a Ganger of himself. He went to the island on purpose to study the Flesh though I don't see how making a copy of himself was supposed to help him understand how the Flesh works. And yeah, Amy told the real Doctor that she watched him die. Whoops. I guess this will have consequences later on. And it's implied that Flesh!Doctor could survive being dissolved so maybe he'll come back at a later date...
It does feel like we're missing a lot of the story. I'm sure something happened in those three months. Flesh!Amy didn't start seeing Eye Patch Lady until after she met up with the Doctor again after those three months had passed so I assume it was still real Amy when she and Rory left for the US. I'd be angry if it turns out that the real Amy has been missing for a lot longer than that.
