Halfway point. It's always the middle where stories flag. You're done introducing stuff but you can't pay off anything because you haven't reached the end yet.
But all the stuff about the overflow camps and the modules will probably spur the team to try a lot harder. And this wouldn't be Torchwood without them killing off a somewhat major character. Granted, Vera was only a recurring character, but she was still a big part of this season. Seems very Joss of RTD to have Vera join the team only to have her to be burned alive. Maybe that's why he had Jane Espenson write this ep. And I guess it also shows how Miracle Day has just messed with people. Changing the definitions of dead and alive and whatnot. I also suppose that someone needed to die just to hit home that even though people are immortal, it doesn't mean you're safe.
Good to see Rhys again, but he really didn't do much besides drive a lorry. He and Andy were just there to hang around Gwen and be her support team. Nice to get Gwen back to Wales, though. Yay, people with Welsh accents! I do wish this season would be a bit more international. Yes, there are international newscasters, and we hear about stuff going on in other countries, but let's visit those other countries. And where's Trinity Wells? She's the newscaster extraordinaire in the Whoverse.
So does it seem like Phi-Corp is being used? That guy in that suit approached Jilly at the rally and complimented her. Are aliens behind Phi-Corp and the human employees are just following orders? Jilly's pretty aggressive, though she might be more concerned about the bottom line. She is crazy, though. I haven't talked about her yet. Why is it that PR people are always evil? The PR guy on BSG turned out to be a Cylon. ;-) Is Jilly tied up in the conspiracy? Is she not? It'll be interesting to see where she falls. But she was really insistent that Oswald use the word "revelation". Is it a brainwashing thing? Or just another way to get Phi-Corp out there?
Really not much else to comment on. You do see the contrast between the US filmed stuff and the UK filmed stuff. Nice and sunny in California, and it's cloudy and miserable in Wales. Obviously, it's just a climate thing. I don't think it's supposed to a comment on the story. Though, people definitely seem more crazy in the US. That guy who shot Vera was creepy. Meanwhile in Wales? They're very civilized. There was that sign telling people to queue and they did. ;-) Sorry, I'm Canadian. This is probably only amusing to me.
Randomly: oh, that scene with Jack when they're loading Rex into the ambulance. So over the top with the boyfriend thing, but it was hilarious. Rex giving Jack the finger was just awesome. Also, fist bump! Oh, Jack. People, make that into an icon! Also, was the Welsh overflow camp the same place where they filmed Area 51 for Doctor Who? Totally looked like the same hangar. I briefly thought that the modules might be space modules or something. Wow, I was super wrong about that.
So what time is Torchwood on in the US? I'll be in Las Vegas next Friday and hopefully the hotel has Starz. I want to be prepared in case they do.

Date: 2011-08-07 06:12 pm (UTC)I found the whole "revelation" thing was also the key word for Oswald. By him saying it, it cements his alliance with Phi-Corp. He easily could have gone the other way and told people the truth.
