Missed doing a review for Torchwood 4x06, "The Middle Men". Just quickly, I thought there was a lot of sitting in rooms doing nothing. But Esther got a nice moment. And, wow, Jack's coat has become a pick-up line on its own. :-)

But anyway, the latest episode. Bit more happening in this one.

I'm just annoyed that the guy who wants Jack dead is some guy we've never met before. Of course it was Angelo. We wouldn't spend an entire episode with him if he wasn't involved somehow. But it just makes the reveal less interesting and not a surprise. Yes, there are still questions, but I'm kind of not interested in why Angelo knows about Miracle Day and how it started. There's all this set-up and it falls flat a bit. I don't know. Maybe there's more to it. Maybe Miracle Day is all Jack's fault because he pushed Angelo away. It's kind of like "Children of Earth". A mistake Jack made in the past is now biting him in the ass.

I think this episode was basically about Jack and how just meeting him can mess up your life. Angelo went to jail and he stirred up this crazy mob who thought Jack was the Devil. And then there's Gwen and her family and their lives in danger. Jack's line about wanting to hold onto his mortality made me wonder. Maybe he hates being immortal. Maybe all he wants is to die so he doesn't have to keep living and keep messing up people's lives.

Neat that the Doctor got name dropped. It fits, I think. Immortal Jack and the Doctor are alike. They have to move on for the sake of others. But what did Jack say about the Doctor having companions? "It looks nice." I assume he's talking about having the company. Oh, I wish the Doctor and Jack could meet up again. I just realized that they both wear suspenders. :-) Also, Jack wears a belt and suspenders. Isn't that overkill?

Oh, and Triangle guys. They strike me more as a secret group that keeps going on through the generation through descendants and whatnot. Also, there's a moment when an old lady bottles some of Jack's blood. Is that important? Or was it just a moment showing how crazy the mob had gotten?

Random: Andy! He got to shoot a bad guy. I like that he had a moment. "I've never shot anyone before." Aw. And the thing I love about Jane Espenson penned episodes? There's still humour. Jack's line about Gwen being Welsh and not noticing if vowels were missing in a sentence was funny. Though, maybe that's a RTD line? He'd know more about Welsh stereotypes and stuff. And Nana Visitor! She was at the Star Trek convention I attended and she mentioned she was on Torchwood. Looks like she gets another ep. She had a nice story about how she didn't get wrapped on the show and she started to leave the set but then John Barrowman came running after her and he wrapped the shoot for her.

And how come Jack was dressed like a 1920s version of Ten when he saw Angelo again? I mean, brown suit, light brown long coat? Now I have visions of Jack dressed like Ten and vice versa...

We're getting close to the end, but I've sort of lost interest. This season isn't as awesome as last season. Probably because last season was half as long and the story really had to move. Plus, Doctor Who is back next week, and really, that's all I care about. ;-)

I watched with some interest thru ep 3, and just haven't gotten around to watching the rest. Which is a shame, because I like Alexa Havins (I liked her before Torchwood and I quite like her in Torchwood). I like the characters- but I'm just not that interested in the story. I think it's the pacing. I'm sure I'll get around to watching it... it's just not been my priority.

My real problem is I'll be away and away from TV/Computer when the new Doctor Who airs! Missing that bugs me more than missing Torchwood. I don't dislike it, it's just... there.

You're right about the pacing. It's the arc of Miracle Day. It's in every episode; you never get a break from it. If this was a proper season and not set up like a mini-series, we'd get breaks from the arc. Would have breather episodes with plots completely unrelated to Miracle Day.

Funny how Doctor Who trumps everything else. :-) It's the same for me.
