One more episode to go... Sigh.

So 200 years have passed for the Doctor since "The God Complex"? Huh. So what, he bummed around the universe by himself then decided to go on another farewell tour? Does that mean he visited everyone again? As entertaining a thought that is, it's just another gap of time that we'll never get to see. Too many of those have happened this season. Three months here, four months there, two months here, and now 200 years. I know the story needs to reach the end, but it would be nice to see time passing. But anyway...

Matt Smith was definitely filming this episode at the same time as "The Girl Who Waited". Fun to see Craig again, but really, that role could have been filled by anyone, any one of the Doctor's Companions. But then we wouldn't have had a baby defeating the Cybermen. Yup, they totally hung a lantern on the crackiness of that resolution. They stopped the Cybermen with love. Thank goodness they did make a joke out of it, because I really can't take it seriously. And it was kind of the same resolution as Craig's other episode. He used his love of Sophie to stop the ship from exploding or whatever.

Okay, I'm going to have to get super geeky for a second. Are these Cybermen meant to be Cybermen from Mondas? Because the emblems on their chest are lacking the C from the Cybus logo. And then there are the Cybermats. Old School Cybermen used those a number of times. And they had their classic line, "You will be like us." Have the writers just given up on having the Cybus Cybermen and they've gone back to the classic Cybermen? The Doctor says the Cybermen crashed hundreds of years ago, but I suppose that could have been a time travel thing. I mean, there's nothing wrong with having the classic Cybermen, they were never wiped out during the classic series, but they're not interchangeable with the Cybus Cybermen. It's just terrible coincidence that the two different sets look exactly the same now? Sigh. Okay, super geek moment over.

The Doctor, on his farewell tour. Seeing all of his friends and seeing the sights before the end. He's so nostalgic. :-) But it's also very him, taking the time, his last remaining hours, to help save the world. I just enjoyed seeing him work in a shop, with a name tag to boot. Also interesting seeing him with a baby. They played the "I speak Baby" card again, which was cute, but it was cuter seeing him talking to Alfie and just trying to remember what it was like to have a kid of his own. That's twice now that the Doctor has had to comfort a child and be kind of awkward about it. I wish we could have seen more of that. Instead of having Melody grow up, it would have been nice if he found her and Amy and Rory got to raise her on the TARDIS and they got Uncle Doctor to babysit. Alas, it's not meant to be.

And speaking of the Ponds, since when do they live in Colchester? Or was that the location of the new flat that we saw at the end of "The God Complex"? Or it's just a horrible coincidence, because the universe is like that? You do need a moment of the Doctor seeing Amy and Rory and seeing his regret, so I'm not against the strange odds. And Amy's a model now? I was wondering why that little girl was asking for Amy's autograph and then we see the ad (Petrichor; nice). I guess some time has passed since "The God Complex", long enough for Amy to establish herself as a recognizable model. I wonder how Rory's handling that? He was rolling his eyes a bit while Amy was signing the autograph, suggesting that this happens a lot. I hope some of their new life gets mentioned next week. Can't having the Doctor dying without the season's Companions around.

There's just one thing I don't get. So we saw Ten swear off Companions, but the moment he regenerated into Eleven he picked up Amy. Because he wanted to be admired? Who knows. Then you have Eleven realizing that he's ruined Amy's life and he drops her back on Earth. Then he travels around for about 200 years on his own. Fine. But what will cause him to pick up Amy again? We know she's coming back for another season. What changes his mind about having friends on board? That was the thing they sort of glossed over when season five started.

Oh, and it was River all along in the spacesuit from "The Impossible Astronaut". I guess she doesn't remember that because of some timey-wimey antics. So did Eye Patch Lady allow her to escape in "Day of the Moon"? Everything was meant to lead up to killing the Doctor at Lake Silencio? I kind of thought they would play out the Doctor's death, that it would take a few seasons to reach that moment, but I guess not. I guess that mean everything gets resolved, because you kind of need a Doctor if the show is called Doctor Who. Or maybe River takes over for the Doctor. ;-)

Random: Um, since when does the sonic screwdriver have a laser blast mode? Because there were a few times when the Doctor pointed at the Cybermat and a green laser shot out? That's new. Maybe he downloaded a new app. I noticed the blue notepaper/envelopes early in the episode and sort of thought, "Hey, they're TARDIS blue", but it didn't really hit me until the end. Oh, so that's where the Doctor got the envelopes from. And the hat. And what was he doing around Craig's house? Grinding pepper and mashing up something weird in the kitchen. Just shows how alien he is, I guess.

I'm sad that we won't get a proper season until fall next year. That's just wrong. I know they probably want to avoid airing the show at the same time as the summer Olympics, but the wait will be so long. They better do something super awesome for the 50th anniversary is all I'm saying...

I think River did know she was in the astronaut suit. Like, she might not have known all the details (that she was invited specifically for that point), but when she saw it, she knew. I remember that she tried shooting it and angrily said something like "Of course not!", which was meant to look like "Right, life wouldn't be that fair that my shooting would be able to kill it..." but I always suspected it was secretly meant to be "Of course I couldn't kill her because it's me in the past, but I had to try anyway."

I think they are trying to sort of sneak the old school Cybermen in under the radar, that they're just one of the races that are out there in the universe now. I think the ones in the Good Man Goes to War were the same thing, no Cybus logo. And that they're going under the theory that the two types of Cyberman mostly look the same, save the logo, even though they didn't look like that in the old series, it's like how any alien they bring back from the old series isn't going to look like a silly rubber suit (we hope). They don't have the budget to completely redesign the Cybermen again for the Mondas types.

Technically it could have been the ones from the "Next Doctor" who were supposedly sent into the time vortex with no guidance, which would have destroyed them, but perhaps by some miracle they, or a small fragment of them, landed centuries in the past, or another group of Void-escaping ones, but... I dunno, I just prefer to think of the Cybermen just being out there, one race among multitudes, with their own little Cyber-Empire at certain points in time. .

I do wish they'd outright state it, though.

Otherwise, though, I didn't much care for the episode. A bit too silly for my tastes... a couple nice moments, but I was hoping for more.

Maybe the Crack had something to do with the Cybermen? In "The Pandorica Opens", they're the Cybus Cybermen. Perhaps rebooting the universe caused history to change and the Cybus Cybermen never came to this reality. Really, we can explain any inconsistencies on the Crack now. :-) But yeah, an outright explanation would be nice.

I think the constant night shoots for this episode drove everyone loopy. Have you seen the Confidential for this one? The boys were really silly. And I'm sure that next week will be super depressing, so a light romp sort of made sense.

Dear freaking god if only River could take over for the doc, or at least get her own show.
My life needs more River song.

Hey maybe with the reviews Torchwood America got, and with the Beeb wanting to shoot a show in America, Alex could do the River Song show over here. I get more River, and Alex doesn't have to deal with the commute or making her daughter switch schools.

Spin-off? Doctor Song? :-)

River on Torchwood would rock. I remember hearing she lives in the US so that totally works.
