Seriously, don't mock the French Horn. Ewan McGregor used to play the French Horn, too. :-)

I was a band geek all through junior high and high school, so six years total. I can't remember a thing about how to play a French Horn anymore (this seems to be a theme with me), but I do have fond memories of band class and band trips. I think Band was my favourite class, besides Creative Writing. And I do believe that the French Horn is the laziest instrument in the band. I remember reading once that the French Horn has the least amount of material to play in an orchestra. Considering the amount of time I spent in band practice listening to my band teacher harp on the trumpet players, it's so true.

Oh, and I learned how to play the trumpet for one year when I was in jazz band. So I guess that's two instruments.

Random factoid: a French Horn case makes an impromptu seat if you're waiting for the bus. Same for a trumpet case. And a tuba case is perfect for lounging in the sun. Trust me. :-D

I wasn't in band, but played trombone in music class. That was the easiest one, because you could just pretend to be playing and copy the arm positions of the people next to you! Unless of course, they didn't know either, then you all got into trouble.

I was not a very good player, but, in my defense, my arms were also too short to make the last position easily, so, I blame whoever put me on that instrument.

I'm reminded of a friend of mine from high school band. She played the trombone and she was really short, so she also had an arm length issue. To get the furthest slide positions, she actually used her foot.

I figure trombones are the next laziest brass instrument after French Horns. So much slacking off happened in our back corner.
