- Happy Canada Day! Only two more years until the 150th anniversary of Confederation. Judging from the commercials they keep running, the Canadian government is already planning stuff for the big 1-5-0.

- I also have the day off, which is always nice, but it's a bit awkward having the holiday in the middle of the week. You can't really go anywhere without taking extra time off. Not that I would go anywhere. I prefer to stay indoors. :-)

- Actually, I'm happily knitting my Fourth Doctor scarf. I think my wrists have gotten used to the repetitive motion and they don't hurt as much now. Reminds me of something Bart said in an episode of The Simpsons, about how he's been forced to write lines so many times that his wrists are like cement mixers.

- Incidently, I'm at 28.51% on the Scarf. I think once I finish the stripe I'm on right now the Scarf will be 24 inches. If I hold it up to my neck, it's actually longer than my torso so I think I'm on track for a good finish length. But knitting a scarf is definitely more a winter project than a summer project. The Scarf gets heavier as I go, so I have all of this knitted yarn pooled on my lap and my legs get very warm, very fast. Knowing my luck, it'll be a really hot summer this year.

- I started re-watching The Avengers recently and while I really wanted to start from the beginning, I skipped over the first couple of seasons and went straight for the seasons with Steed and Mrs. Peel. They are the Avengers in my mind, even though Steed had other partners before and after Mrs. Peel. I've never seen the black and white episodes with Steed and Mrs. Peel so it's been a little weird not watching them in colour. The colour episodes were the only episodes Bravo showed back in the day, so that's the image I have of them in my head. Not that anything is wrong with black and white. I've come to appreciate black and white television a lot more after my massive Classic Who run-through. But the thing I never realized about Mrs. Peel was that she was a scientist. I always thought that she was just a butt kicker, but there's more to her character than that. Steed often defers to her when a scientific issue comes up. So The Avengers was even more progressive than I thought, which is awesome. :-)

- The Stampede starts this Friday, which means I can wear jeans to work every day the following week. Honestly, it's the best thing about the Stampede. Well, that, and the mini doughnuts.
