So the new TV season has kicked off for the year!

Shows I will be watching for sure:
- Castle
- Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
- The Flash
- Arrow
- Agent Carter (when it premieres mid-season)

I'm really excited for The Flash. Arrow has established a nice DC universe on TV so it'll be fun to see them expand that world. Also, crossovers! I haven't seen two shows cross over since Stargate. I've been watching the old Flash show from 1990, simply because the guy who played the Flash in 1990 is now playing Barry's dad in the new show, and I can't wait to see what they can do with super speed with modern CGI. Arrow will also be awesome. I find most shows have their best stories around their third season and Arrow was already hitting on all cylinders. Yet again, Castle I watch just for Nathan Fillion; nuff said there. I really hope Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. finds its feet this season. It was a rocky start and the show only picked up steam towards the very end of the season. I have my fingers crossed that they get a full season pick-up. If they don't... well, at least we'll have Agent Carter to look forward to. They hired Enver Gjokaj! I hope his character turns out to be the guy Peggy married.

Shows I might be watching:
- Gotham
- Forever
- Gracepoint

I watched the premieres for Gotham and Forever last night. They were... okay. Gotham might have potential. Forever? Um, haven't I seen this premise before?

Actually, I've seen this premise twice before. Immortal guy who works with law enforcement and has a partner who is none the wiser about said immortal guy's condition. While immortal guy catches the bad guys in the main plot, and tries to find ways to cure his immorality, we get flashbacks to his extensive past in the B plot. Hello, Forever Knight and New Amsterdam. Actually, Forever has more in common with New Amsterdam. It's set in New York City, the main characters are just guys and not vampires, and both have a son or son figure who know about the main character's whole not dying thing.

I really liked New Amsterdam when it aired briefly on FOX, but I guess it was short lived enough that ABC decided to go ahead with Forever. Take away the immortal guy and you know what Forever is? It's just another procedural where a cop is helped by someone who isn't another police officer. You see it all the time. Castle, The Mentalist, Monk, and lots of other shows I can't think of right now. That's the bit that doesn't appeal to me. The other bit, with Henry trying to cure his immortality, appeals to me. The pilot introduces another guy who, potentially, is just like Henry, so that'd be an interesting thread to follow. I'll see. If it doesn't get cancelled, maybe I'll download the season.

Ah, Gotham. You have the potential to be a giant mess. If the show was just about Jim Gordon starting out as a new detective, that'd be an interesting show. But the second they started throwing in villains before they were villains and Bruce before he was Batman, I cringed. I don't need to see everyone's origin story. And all of these future villains all work and live in Gotham? That's one screwed up city if it keeps producing crazy super villains. I don't know, the show seems too cluttered with all of these will-be villains. They should just focus on Gordon trying to deal with a corrupt police department and a corrupt partner. Fish Mooney is a brand new character. Use that to your advantage. You can take her places you don't expect because her background isn't bogged down by 75 years of comic book back-story.

I also worry that young Bruce might get annoying fast. You want him to be Batman but it's a long way off. It was the same with Smallville. Watching Clark not be Superman got tedious. And the producers keep saying that want to throw in the Joker at some point. Gah, no! The Joker only came about because Batman showed up and that elevated the level of criminal in Gotham. I don't need to see Joker before the grin.

The only thing that amused me in the pilot? Sean Pertwee as Alfred. It's crazy how much he looks like his dad. Just throw a bouffant white wig on him and he's the Third Doctor. ;-) But his look wasn't what amused me. It's how he plays Alfred. He looks like a proper butler, but when he speaks, he's got a rough English accent. Much rougher than the accent Michale Caine used in the Nolan Batman movies. It just made me giggle when Alfred said "arse".

I may keep watching Gotham, but maybe not as it airs. You can't judge a show by its pilot, after all.

I'm still undecided about Gracepoint even though it has David Tennant. Broadchurch was awesome but I don't need to see an American remake of it. Maybe I'll just read the episode recaps. Also, I don't think I can take David's character seriously with that American accent.

Oh, and speaking of a Doctor Who star... I saw a TV ad for Selfie, Karen Gillan's new show. It's kind of funny how they're pushing the fact that the two stars come from big sci-fi franchises. John Cho has Star Trek and Karen has... wait, for it... Guardians of the Galaxy. Um, wha? Yeah, it's ABC and ABC and Disney and Marvel all share the same bed, but come on. Karen is known for Doctor Who. Promote that instead. Or maybe they assume the Doctor Who fans will watch anyway? Because Marvel movie fans would totally watch a comedy that's a take-off of Pygmalion / My Fair Lady. ;-)
