Superhero overload this week. All the DC shows are new (well, the Berlanti run ones at any rate) plus the premiere of one more and the return of Agent Carter on top of that. Whew.
The DC shows might warrant their own post by the end of the week, but let's talk about Peggy now. :-) Yay, she's back! And kicking butt, of course.
But a year has passed since last season? That's a lot of time we missed out on. I get the sense that Peggy is the top agent at the New York office and that really bugs Thompson, but what else has Peggy been up to? Hunting down Dottie it seems, but what else? I guess that's what fanfic is for. Or maybe the show will fill in the gap with flashbacks later in the season.
I see they're going more sci fi this season, with the Zero Matter being the root of everyone's problems. I just wish that it didn't look like the Inhuman obelisk in its liquid form. Make it a different colour, at least, so people don't get confused. Unless the two are meant to be related. Wilkes does say that the Zero Matter could be extraterrestrial or extra-dimensional. Hmm... Maybe Wilkes isn't dead, then. Maybe he got sucked into a portal and he ended up on the same planet that Simmons did. But wait, that would mean he's still dead. Okay, scratch that theory.
And a quick Google search tells me the Zero Matter is actually Darkforce and the concept was actually already introduced on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Huh, how about that. It's also ties into the Doctor Strange movie. Well, Marvel likes to plan ahead, but once again, one of the TV shows is stuck with a certain plot point to set up or payoff one of the movies.
Speaking of Wilkes, it was nice seeing Peggy attempting to get friendly with a guy in a romantic way. Too bad he's probably dead, which is not cool. Also not cool: Sousa having a girlfriend. I usually don't care if a certain character gets together with another character, but I really want to see Peggy and Sousa together. She called him a bunch of times! She wants to have drinks with him! She's totally interested in him. As usual, it's the guy who screws everything up. ;-) It's wrong of me to think this, but I hope Violet ends up being like another Dottie. Like, she's only with Daniel to feed Leviathan or whoever information. On the other hand, she could be just a nice, normal person who likes Daniel because he's hot and fights bad guys. I dunno. I just want the writers to handle the Peggy/Sousa dynamic with respect. I don't need him constantly worrying about Peggy when she's in the field or running to her rescue.
Anyway, the set-up for the season. The West Coast setting adds sunshine and LA landmarks, but the show's wit and humour is still the same. Love seeing Peggy and Jarvis back at it, but I miss Angie. It's sad to think she's hanging out in their giant apartment all alone. I haven't heard anything about her coming back. Maybe Peggy will fly her out to LA later in the season, because how could she not? Hollywood is a perfect match for Angie. In the meantime, Mrs. Jarvis seems to be Peggy's new BFF. She seems to have no problems keeping up with Peggy and Jarvis. But the thing that I wasn't expecting was seeing Rose running the front office of the SSR LA bureau. She was a minor character last season, but it feels like we'll be seeing more of her.
Now, I get why the front office is a talent agency. In LA, they are a dime a dozen, so it really doesn't stand out, but Rose says their sign is barely legible. Um, I hate to break it to you, Rose, but your sign is as clear as day. And you wonder why tap dancers and clowns walk in off the street. I guess it will be part of the humour for the season. Poor Rose, having to put up with all of these hopefuls and then turning them away.
As for this new group of bad people, I read they're like the Mafia or Marvel's version of the Mafia. Will they be as intimidating as Leviathan? We'll see, I guess. I'm not really clear on what their motivations are, but they sound nefarious. Tying them in with Leviathan through Dottie helps to make them interesting. Why would Leviathan want to steal from them? Ooh, maybe Dottie ends up working with Peggy. That'd be a cool scenario. Seems like a waste of Dottie to let her rot away in a jail cell for the season.
Random: That flamingo. Bernard Stark. And Jarvis trying to wrangle it. Yay, Sousa's not longer wearing ugly sweater vests! Interesting that they slip in that Peggy has a brother. Makes sense. Sharon Carter from Captain America: The Winter Soldier is meant to be Peggy's grand niece, so for her to have a grand niece, she needs to have a sibling. Oh, and we also learn that Peggy is from Hampstead. Hopefully we'll get more background on Peggy this season. I wonder if the season will end with the creation of S.H.I.E.L.D. I always forget that the SSR was a war time initiative. It will be nice to see Peggy working with the SSR this season, rather than against them. The boys don't have to come off like idiots because they're in the dark about her investigation.
It's great that Agent Carter has so much humour. Sets it apart from the Netflix shows, which are so grim sometimes.
