Last day of the expo. Last appearance ever of Stan Lee at the expo. Last day to hang out with a horde of geeks.
As much as I complain about how tired I am, I do love this weekend. It's the best time of the year. It's the only comic book expo or con that I know I will be attending every year since it's right in the city. Not everyone has a big convention in their own backyard.
I was smarter this year and spread out my autographs over a few days, rather than trying to get everyone in one day. My last autograph of the expo was Alan Tudyk. I got there nice and early, but then I was told that Alan was going to be an hour late, so I left and wandered around for a bit. Turned out that Alan was feeling under the weather; you could totally tell he had a cold. So, kudos for the guy for still coming out and meeting with everyone even though I'm sure he wanted to be taking a nap.
And now I have two thirds of the cast on my Serenity comic:

Just Ron, Sean, and Gina to go. I think these last three are going to be tough. I don't think I've seen any of them do cons recently, except for that one in Dallas where they were going to do a reunion but then Morena and Alan had to cancel. I really need to get a better protective cover for the comic. The comic book sleeve I have is fine and all, but I want something like a hard cover so the comic doesn't bend while I'm transporting it.
Oh, as I was heading over to go do my Alan Tudyk photo-op, I got flagged down by a woman and was handed a ribbon (because I was in my Kaylee cosplay):

Now, I'm only familiar with ribbons from the pictures I see from Gallifrey One, so I was under the impression that it was only a Gally thing, but I guess not. So I got my first ribbon ever. :-) Unfortunately, I didn't catch what group the woman was with; I only heard something of the Verse. Tales of the Verse? Anyone know what I'm talking about?
Alan was running behind on his photo-ops, so I only caught the last ten minutes of Billie Piper's panel. I was told that she was quite impressed with the room layout, which is a large arena. Having only been to a few cons myself, I just assumed that most large cons have a huge room for the big panels, but the whole arena thing seems uncommon. Actually, the room was quite full, so I can understand why Billie might be slightly overwhelmed. Oh, and a kid asked her why she couldn't bring David Tennant with her! :-D Yeah, that kid asked the question on everyone's mind. Billie assured us that she would tell David about CCEE and the awesome arena set-up, so who knows, maybe the expo will get him as a guest in the near future.

The knitter in me couldn't stop looking at her sweater. It was a strange, oversized pink number.
And this will probably only amuse Albertans, but Billie had a hard time saying Lethbridge. She was probably thinking "Leftbridge". Someone should have told her that it's Lethbridge, as in Brigadier General Lethbridge-Stewart. ;-)
I was happy to stay in the panel room, so I sat through Robin Lord Taylor's panel. I don't watch Gotham, but Robin Lord Taylor is actually a funny guy. He was also equally overwhelmed by the arena set-up and I think he was genuinely teary that there were so many people there to see him. Robin sounds like he's a big geek, too, and he actually had a Doctor Who related comment. He's great friends with Sean Pertwee, who plays Alfred on the show, and we all know that Sean is Jon Pertwee's son. Robin got a big kick out of the fact that Peter Capaldi was the head of the Jon Pertwee Fan Club when he was a teenager.
Stan Lee's panel was my last panel of the day. It was also his second last appearance ever in Canada (Fan Expo in Toronto will be his last ever appearance), so the room was packed. But hey, the guy is a legend, so it was not a surprise.

For 93, he is amazingly energetic. He lost his train of thought a few times while answering a question, but that can happen to someone half his age, someone a third of his age. He had a funny bit going with the camera mounted on the crane that was filming the panel; he was convinced it was out to get him and that it was going to shoot a laser at him. I find it very easy to believe that this man came up with so many of the characters in the Marvel universe.
And I have to see Deadpool now. People kept mentioning his cameo in it. Something about strippers? And yes, he's in Captain America: Civil War but he's not allowed to talk about it. Jeez, Disney rules over their properties with an iron fist.
Of course Stan the Man got a standing ovation in the end. :-) And he ended the panel with his famous "Excelsior!"
I wish I had taken more pictures of the cosplayers this year, but sometimes you just don't have time. The popular costumes this year were Rey and Kylo Ren from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Oh, and BB-8. There was a really cute baby, maybe six months old, dressed like BB-8 at the parade. Maybe one of these days I will do a complicated cosplay, but I'm happy to stick with my clothing based costumes.
Well, until next year. I actually think I'm running out of people that I want to see. The expo is getting that good at booking the actors that I love. Just get David Tennant and all will be right with the world.
