I wasn't actually being serious when I said I would play on the Xbox until my fingers were numb, but I bought Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds and it's just so hard to put down. It's like a new episode and I get to control what happens.
I'm finding that Chaos Bleeds is slightly better than the first Buffy game. There are save points so when you die you don't have to repeat the entire level and you can play as other characters besides Buffy. There's even a multi-player, but since it's just me I haven't tried that out yet. They even got most of the actors to voice their characters, minus Sarah who doesn't do stuff like this, Alyson who had a schedule conflict with American Wedding, and Emma for whatever reason. The voice actor they got for Buffy sounds enough like Sarah so I really don't mind, but the replacement for Willow makes it sound like Willow has a cold.
Game play is more of the same. You get the run around Sunnydale slaying vampires and demons. And everything looks the same as it did on the show. The plot of the game isn't half bad either. I remember reading the novelization of Chaos Bleeds, but it much more exciting when you're actually playing the game. The only problem with the plot is that the characters need to have reasons to go running around an abandoned warehouse or to go look for such and such object. Since that is the case, non-playable characters are stuck playing the damsels in distress. Xander has to go save Anya, Willow has to go save Tara, and Buffy... Guess who she has to save.
Not Dawn, but Giles.
When I got to that point in the game - Giles is injured so Buffy's got to run around the Magic Box's basement looking for ingredients to make a spell to stop a pair of gargoyles - I was sort of angry. I don't understand why Giles can't be one of the playable characters. He can totally look after himself. He can fight and perform minor spells. Jeez. It's likely you can play his character for the multi-player games, but he's missing from the actual story of the main game. I suppose male gamers would rather play as hot young women or buff young guys. ;-)
But the totally interesting thing about the storyline is the complete lack of Dawn. She hasn't been mentioned so far. And I know it's season five because you get to see Joyce's grave at one point. So if you disliked Dawn, Chaos Bleeds is a game for you. It's like an alternative reality where she was never introduced.
I don't know if I'll finish the game before the week is over, but considering that I was up until 1 am playing I think I'll get most of it done. Let's just hopefully I'll still have the use of my fingers by then.
