Oh, Diablo, how I've missed thee.

I think it's safe to say that Diablo formed my love for video games. It was the first major game, that wasn't educational, that I really loved and played to bits. Sadly, I eventually moved away from PC gaming to console gaming, so I missed out when Diablo III came out.

Well, thank goodness Blizzard decided to port over the game to the consoles. :-D I started playing today and it's just like old times. Got me my Barbarian and I'm just hacking my way through demons and zombies, picking up gold and loot as I go. And I'm a lady Barbarian, too, though for some reason that means I barely have any clothes, even when I equip better armour. Oh well.

So far, the controls aren't bad. I'm not lamenting the loss of my mouse and keyboard. You can equip at least six skills, so that's pretty awesome. Regardless, I'm a Barbarian so my fighting style doesn't involve much finesse. Your inventory looks good, too, but I haven't collected enough loot to see if it's better or worse. I'm sure I'll reach a point where I run out of room. It's inevitable. This is Diablo after all.

Can't wait to play some multiplayer. I didn't do too much of it, only managed a little bit with Diablo II, but I'm sure it'll be as awesome as I remember.

So I know how I'm spending my weekend.
This totally made my day:

Diablo III To Hit Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on September 3

I'm a console gamer, but I'm a big Diablo fan from way back when. It was the first PC game, that wasn't educational, that I played heavily so it'll be great to get back into that universe. It'll be weird to play it without a mouse and keyboard and hopefully the port goes well, but from what I've been reading, the controls aren't bad. And with my gameplay style, which basically consists of running into a crowd and hacking and slashing everything to death, it really doesn't matter how great the controls are. Button mashing, all the way. ;-)

I think my love for tank characters stems from Diablo. I finished the game as a hack-everything-to-bits Warrior, not the kills-from-a-distance Rogue or the wimpy-in-the-health-department Sorcerer. I remember being disappointed that a Warrior wasn't allowed to hold a sword in either hand. Then along came Diablo II and the Barbarian and hello! Dual wield, baby! I went through most of that game just a whirlwind of swords. Makes me happy that the Barbarian is a class again in Diablo III and that you can choose your gender, too. I know what class I'm choosing when the game arrives.

All of the articles I've read about the port mention the PlayStation 3 or the Xbox 360 and even possibly the PlayStation 4, but nothing about the new Xbox One. Personally, I'd rather not have to buy another Xbox just to play a game, but at the same time, I know all of the newer games will be on the new console. If I want to keep up, I will have to buy an Xbox One at some point. We'll see.
12 days. Beats my time for the last Mass Effect game. I blame marathon sessions on the weekends.

Oh man, I've been playing this series since the beginning so it's hard to put into words what I'm thinking right now. I suppose it's like any trilogy. The character went on a journey, you followed them through all of the hardships, and now the journey is over. I have to say that the last game was one heck of a ride.

Spoilers for Mass Effect 3. Don't click if you haven't finished the game. )

In total, I say I put in around 30 hours of gameplay, not counting any multiplayer. I'm so ready to play it again with my other Shepard if only to see how different choices affect the end.

But first, I need to take a walk. I'm so close to achieving 1,000,000 steps.
Oh yeah, got my hands on a copy of Mass Effect 3! Not that I'm a chatterbox or anything, but I'm going to be really quiet for next few weeks. Oh man, good-bye productivity.

I should go.
I'm usually all about the shooting games. You shoot a thing and then you move to shoot more things. Very straightforward. So not the case with Portal. You actually have to think about stuff to move on. Totally not my thing, but boy, this game is addictive.

It's a completely non-violent game. The only thing you do destroy is the computer running everything and that takes more thinking than brute force. I learned right away that you can't rush through each level; you really gotta think things through and be patient. I think that's why Portal is so addictive. You feel so smart after figuring out the puzzle and you're left thinking, "Yeah, I'm awesome and I can be even more awesome when I figure out the next level." :-D It's not the longest game in the world though; you can probably finish it in one sitting if you're that dedicated. I managed it in two, but my left elbow is killing me now. This is worst than the time I played Chaos Bleeds for an entire week and ended up with sore fingers.

But the best thing about Portal is the plot. While there's not much to it - you're Chell, a volunteer in a science facility who's testing out the portal gun for a reward of cake at the end - the truth behind everything is kind of creepy. As you can see by my icon, the cake is actually a lie concocted by GLaDOS, the computer running the test. GLaDOS, who celebrates her evil triumphs through song. Seriously, "Still Alive", best video game song ever. None of this "One Winged Angel" nonsense.

I think I need to ice my elbow now...
I think the whole point of me buying an Xbox was so I could play on-line with my sister and her husband. We used to play Guild Wars together, but that was a few years ago. Of course, the only problem with playing a game on-line is you actually have to have a game with a co-op mode. As far as I'm concerned, there aren't a lot of options out here, not less you want your ass to be kicked by a ten year old. I've been told that can happen. :-)

But hurray for zombies! Left 4 Dead is all about the co-op. Work together or you're zombie meat. I played a little by myself but I doubt it's half as fun as with another person or a group. There's really no plot, but I guess that's not the point of the game. I can see how the game can get old fast if you're playing by yourself though.

Sadly, no bonuses for shooting the zombies right in the head, but you do get a nice splatter of blood all over you. I like the shotgun, it does more damage, but you can only get off ten shots before you have to reload. I dunno; maybe some of the other weapons are good, too. But when the zombie horde comes running at you, thinking about the right weapon is the last thing on your mind. You just keep shooting until all the zombies are bodies on the group. I'm not fond of the zombie hordes. The different kind of zombies are kind of cool. They're not all shambling, or in this case, marathon runners.

I wish the game had maps or indicators to tell you where to go. I hate randomly running around. And you can jump into any level of a campaign. You don't have to unlock first or anything. That's sort of weird, but helpful. You don't have to play through the level again if you die or whatever.

Ultimately, Left 4 Dead, not as addicting as Mass Effect, but still fun. Need to get my sister and her husband their copy so we can all enjoy blowing zombies away.
Wow, I just spent the entire weekend playing Xbox. Yesterday and today pretty much went: get up, play some Mass Effect, eat breakfast, play some more Mass Effect, eat a snack, play even more Mass Effect, dinner, play some Mass Effect, shower, bed. And I doubt I'm done even half of the game.

I'm being an Xbox hermit. :-D

Thank goodness I'm not doing NaNoWriMo for real. I'm now a proud owner of a new Xbox 360. Wasn't really my plan to wake up today and go out and buy one, but the new flyers came today and I saw how cheap one was so I couldn't resist. I can justify buying this somehow, but nothing's coming at the moment. ;-)

But I totally see myself playing this thing non-stop once I get some games. I mean, how could I not? Who needs to go outside anyway? Winter's coming; everyone should stay inside where it's nice and warm.
I wasn't actually being serious when I said I would play on the Xbox until my fingers were numb, but I bought Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds and it's just so hard to put down. It's like a new episode and I get to control what happens.
