locker_monsterYay for last minute Christmas shopping. I was going to wait until later to buy Angel: After the Fall #2 mainly because I'm lazy and hate crowded malls, but I had to rectify a gift issue, so, comic joy!
First off, Betta George is so cute. :-D I haven't read any of the stuff Brian Lynch has written for the comics so the character is new to me, but only in a couple of panels George has endeared himself to me. Does anyone know George's background? Doing a Google search doesn't turn up much. It's so disheartening when Gunn beats him up. I definitely had a "No, not Betta George!" moment when that happened. I'm sort of sensing that George has had a crappy life and taken a lot of abuse from other people.
And speaking of Gunn, it seems he's become Resentment Guy. Not turned by Angel to save his life; just turned during the battle. Seems he takes that glowy eye thing because he's going to fix things. I like that Gunn hates being a vampire. Like he says, he spent a good part of his life fighting them and now he has to deal with being one of them. Talk about turning into the thing you hate the most. The best we can hope for is Gunn getting this soul back because I really don't think it would be fair if Gunn became human again through some magick and Angel is still stuck being Undead Guy. It would also be cheap; things are suddenly put right and Gunn being a vampire never happened.
Right now, everyone's got issues with Angel and those shouldn't just disappear. Because of Angel, everything has gone to hell (pardon the pun). Wesley's a ghost, Gunn's a vampire, Nina's stuck halfway to werewolf, everyone in L.A. is demon food. Looks like Nina and Angel broke up. Were they broken up before he gave her the plane tickets? I don't think so; they were sleeping together and mostly happy before everything fell apart.
And whoo, the return of Spike and Illyria. Spike seems to be doing his best impression of Hugh Hefner. ;-) I can't tell if he's ignorant to the fact that L.A. is in Hell or whether he's just spinning that story to impress his bikini clad groupies. It's obvious Spike is Illyria's "pet", so maybe he's granted a few more privileges. I'm just waiting for an issue where they fill in what happened after the ending of "Not Fade Away".
Lastly, what's the name of Angel's dragon? The dialogue balloon just has a bunch of random letters. Anyone else thinking Angel named the dragon Buffy? ;-)
