The first thing I do when I get home from vacation? Watch Doctor Who of course. :-)

I always like it when the Doctor meets someone famous. It's sort of his thing, running into historical figures. I always like it better when meeting said historical person actually serves the plot and it's not just a gratuitous cameo. It sort of feels like Agatha Christie's appearance falls in-between. She helped with the murder mystery plot but the whole wasp thinking her novels was the real world really didn't work. I appreciate that Donna took a moment to connect with her though. The idea of working around an actual event from Christie's life, this case her disappearance, was a nice addition. Any time Doctor Who tries to explain something with no clear explanation it's always good fun. I also have more respect for the writer when they have to fit in plot points around real events.

My familiarity with Agatha Christie and her works is super limited so all the references totally went over my head. The only novel of hers I've read is The Murder of Roger Ackroyd and that was for an English class. Though, it's supposed to be one of her best and I totally believe it's the one story that fooled the Doctor. If you've read the book, you'd understand why. :-) I've also seen bits of some of the Miss Marple TV movies on CBC, but that's it. Still, the whole murder mystery thing was good fun. The works of Agatha Christie have permeated the cultural consciousness, so everyone is familiar with all the tropes. A cast of suspects, each with their own secret, the great detective figure, the confession room scene where all the suspects are gathered. The scene where the Doctor is questioning everyone was nice. First use of that rippling fade effect on Doctor Who I bet. ;-) Even the Doctor gets a moment to have a flashback. Now that's a story waiting to be written. Maybe if it had been a straight murder mystery without the wasp I would have liked the plot more. Obviously new Who is fond of mixing history and aliens and that's fine, but sometimes not every story needs an alien.

So, is the Doctor going to kiss every companion? Poor Mickey; he's the only one who hasn't kissed the Doctor. ;-) When the kiss first appeared in the "Coming Soon" trailer, I thought Donna was kissing the Doctor out of gratitude and it wasn't a romantic thing. From the way the Doctor was sort of bunched in, it seemed like he was caught off guard. Actually, his body language reminded me of when Jackie kissed him. Good to know Donna was only kissing him because his body needed a shock. Does anyone else think it's funny that the first thing Donna thinks of is a kiss? Not a kick to the shin or to the groin or something. Really, the kiss is just there so the fandom can explode again.

I was sort of hoping for another "Coming Soon" trailer since Doctor Who is being delayed for that Eurosong thing (again). I mean, if you're going to delay the episode, give the fans something. Though, next week episode's written by Steven Moffat so that's always worth checking out. I should say now I'm not surprised he was chosen to head the show after Russell T Davies leaves. Moffat seems like the logical choice; he's run shows before and he's a Doctor Who fan. Yes, the producership is changing hands, but that happens a lot on Doctor Who. It goes hand in hand with changing Doctors and Companions.

I'm trying my best to catch up on everything from the past week. But yay for Runaways for becoming a movie. :-) With Brian K Vaughn writing, it can't go wrong.
