A/N: Whoo, my first multi-part Buffy fic. Shout out to the lovely people at "I'd Like To Test That Theory", a wonderful writing website focused on Giles, especially to the two betas who looked over my fic: Karesia and Jessie. The parts are fairly short, so I should have the whole story posted within the weekend.
The summons had come from Andrew. Which was of no surprise to Vi. Not a week went by without the young man asking one of the Slayers to help him out with something. Usually it was just random things – carrying something too heavy for Andrew to manage, helping to find lost files, sometimes even an invitation to watch the latest DVD he had bought – so Vi never really thought twice about it. But when she was asked to meet Andrew in his office, she frowned.
This actually sounded like it was serious.
Her frown deepened when Andrew closed the door to his office.
“Am I in trouble?” Vi blurted out the words despite her reservations. It was only Andrew after all.
“Why? Do I look angry?” Andrew took a peek at his reflection in the glass display case he had by the door. The replica Boba Fett helmet he had won on eBay stared back at him.
“You closed the door. You never do that.”
“Oh that. I need you to do me a favour and I don’t want Giles to hear.”
Vi wandered over to one of the chairs in front of Andrew’s desk. “Then why are we meeting five doors down from his office?” she asked as she sat down.
“I don’t think he’s in there right now.”
“But he’s always in his office.”
“The Council building has thick walls, okay? Do you want to do my favour or not? This is very important.”
Vi smiled at Andrew’s flustered expression. It must have been important if he was getting so agitated. At the very least, it was very amusing. “What’s in it for me? This is the first night off for all of us in months. If I have to waste it doing something for you, it better be worth it.”
“Um… You’ll forever and ever have my respect?” Andrew grinned hopefully.
“Nope.”
The grin quickly became a scowl. “Fine.” He paused, thoughtfully tapping his chin with his index finger. “A week off from dish duty? No, I promised that to Satya for going grocery shopping with me. First choice of dessert at dinner?” Andrew raised an eyebrow. Vi shook her head. “Okay. How ’bout… A weekend off from patrol once a month for the next six months?”
The thought of more time off caused Vi to raise her eyebrows. In an organization of more than fifty girls she had less free time than she expected. “Honest?”
“Well, it’s not like I can guarantee it right this second…”
“But time off. We can agree on that.”
“I guess,” Andrew said hesitantly.
“So what do I have to do then? Fetch some magickal item for you from a shady back alley? Is slaying involved?”
In an instant, Andrew became animated. “It’s a task of the utmost importance. It’s going to be perilous, but if you triumph, your victory will be known by all. Vi–”
She sat up in her chair.
“– I need to you to keep Giles busy for the next two hours.”
“What?”
