I've bothered to keep up with Angel: After the Fall, but now that the first arc is done, I think I'm going to stop now. The season six comics are canon, but they haven't been given the Buffy treatment so they don't feel as cool. Yeah, it's a really poor way of judging these things but if I'm going to shell out like five bucks a month, it'd better be for something I really care about. So, it's Buffy all the way. Sorry Angel. Plus the resolution for the arc was a bit lame.

Wolfram and Hart sends L.A. to Hell as a punishment for Angel. They also turn him human. And make Wesley a ghost. But anyway... The stuck in Hell bit was a neat idea. It's something different, something they wouldn't have been able to do on the show, at least not on an epic scale. By the end of the arc, Connor is dead and Illyria is ready to end all existence due to some angst issues. So to fix everything, Angel goads Gunn, whose a vampire now, into killing him. Then everything resets to the moment back in the alley because of W&H and their grand plans for Angel. A reset?! Okay, so everyone, and I mean everyone including all the citizens of L.A., remember their time in Hell, but it's feels like a really lame way to get out of Hell. But Angel and Co. are major celebrities now, which is kind of funny. I'm sure I'll find a way to keep reading without the spending of money, but I'm fine leaving the series at this point.

The recent issues of Buffy have been... interesting. There's a loose arc linking the current stories together, so we're getting stand alone stories for the most part. Things have taken a weird spin for the Scooby Gang.

Issue #21 was all about Harmony. Funny, but not exactly productive in furthering the personal arcs of our main characters. But the world knows about Slayers now and the various teams stationed all over the place and they're enemy number one at the moment. Thanks to Harmony and her reality show. Yes, Harmony got a reality show. I felt the issue was a bit uneven, and it was written by Jane Espenson which was a bit surprising. There's a quick comic over at Dark Horse's MySpace page which is an "episode" of Harmony's reality show and that works much better than the actual issue. Probably because it's all about Harmony while the issue split its time between Harmony and a new Slayer looking for a fight. Clem's Harmony's assistant or lackey or something and it's cute, but suddenly Harmony's a vampire rights activist. She makes an appearance on Anderson Cooper and that made me laugh.

Issue #22 was okay. Kennedy takes a trip to Japan to check up on Satsu while Twilight uses a bunch of plushy vampire cat toys to try to take down Buffy. Vampire cat toys that crawl down your throat and suck all the moisture from you. Definitely one of the stranger demons to appear on Buffy. We get to revisit Satsu's Buffy angst and by the end of the issue she decides to move on. I wasn't for or against the whole Buffy/Satsu thing so it's not a big deal for me. I'm starting to wish they would change up artists every once and awhile. Comic Kennedy didn't look a thing like Kennedy, though Jo Chen did a wonderful job on the cover as usual.

I'm looking forward to the next two issues. Buffy faces off against Simone, a rogue Slayer who would rather fight with guns than with swords. At least, I hope Buffy gets to face off against Simone. There are going to be rogue Slayers out there and how are Buffy and Co. going to deal with them? We saw with Faith and Giles that they're willing to end a life to save the world. And speaking of Faith and Giles, the issue after that is theirs. I'm excited to see what the two of them have been up to since we last saw them. Tracking rogue Slayers or just being their own special ops team?

What happened to the days were comic books costed a dime? I'd totally buy all the comics I wanted if that were the case now.
