- Upfronts are going on right now so there's a constant stream of news about new shows for the fall. MCU took another hit as ABC didn't pick up Marvel's Most Wanted, the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spin-off with Hunter and Bobbi. The two of them were written out for nothing. Fingers crossed that the writers can figure out a way to write them back in. So the only thing left on the books for the TV side of the MCU is Damage Control, which I think is still in development, and Cloak and Dagger, which is going ahead on Freeform (formerly ABC Family).

I don't think Damage Control has much chance of becoming a series. DC's Powerless on NBC, which got a series pick-up, pretty much has the same premise: a workplace comedy about a company that cleans up after the superheroes. The only difference is the roster of superheroes that cause all of the destruction. I think Marvel is happy with the success of their Netflix shows, so the stuff on network television takes a back seat.

Oh, and Hayley Atwell's new show, Conviction, got a series pick-up. The name of her character? Carter Morrison. Carter! Just rub it in, ABC. I read that the show is going to film in Toronto, so that's the one small upside; Hayley in Canada.

- And they're remaking MacGyver. :-P The pilot got a series pick-up. No thank you. The 1980s version is perfectly cheesy and fun and the stakes were never too high. And the mullet! What will the show be without the signature MacGyver mullet? If they must redo everything, at least keep the science plausible. While some of the stuff Mac came up with it wouldn't work in real life (thank you Mythbusters for testing some of his ingenious lash ups), the ideas had a basis in real science. I hope the writers remember that when trying to get Mac out of a jam. Hmm, I wonder if Richard Dean Anderson will have a cameo...

- One more episode to go for Legends of Tomorrow.

Spoilers for Legends of Tomorrow 1x15, "Destiny" )

- Started my second Fourth Doctor scarf commission last week. My arms and wrists are already getting sore. Maybe I need to do stretches before I start knitting for the day. But I can't wait to finish this thing. I can move on to other projects that are much smaller.
There was no way the expo was going to top last year, so I think they focused on making a better show. No lock outs this time. Actually, it seemed to move pretty well Friday and Saturday. Lots of crowds, obviously, but they kept everyone moving in an orderly fashion.

A weekend of full frontal nerdity )

Once again, a full weekend, but no major mishaps. But I do feel like there's not much to look forward to now. The expo has done pretty well bringing in actors from my fandoms. Definitely need more Doctor Who, though. They had a good start this year, but more please. :-)
I should just tell work to funnel all of my pay cheques to the comic book expo at this point...

MacGyver is coming!

I didn't expect this. I was under the impression that Richard Dean Anderson doesn't do a lot of conventions, but this is the second one I know of for this year. He'll be in Denver, along with Nathan Fillion, in May. Huh, I guess this is his convention year or something. With Michael Shanks attending the expo, too, it'll be a mini Stargate SG-1 reunion, and that will be cool.

I will definitely want to get RDA's autograph on my Stargate bag. When I do, I'll have all four original cast members.

I really want to get a photo with him, too. Not just for me, but for my mom as well. We watched all of Stargate SG-1 together and we made our way through MacGyver on DVD, too. And I'm pretty sure my mom has a crush on Richard Dean Anderson from the old MacGyver days. It'd be a treat for her to get to meet him.
Whoo, I'm on vacation day after tomorrow! Thank goodness. My gosh have I been busy at work. The other admin is on vacation, too, so that's probably why. It's been such a long time since I was busy at work. I forgot what it was like. :-) But in a couple of days, I'll be cruising down the East coast to Boston. Mmm, I can't wait for all the good eating to be had on the cruise ship...

And now for something completely different...

A side quest of mine, besides finishing Classic Who, was to watch the entire run of MacGyver. I think I started in January and I finished a couple of weeks ago. Even watched the two TV movies they did. And all in time for MacGyver's 25th anniversary, which is today. As much as I love Richard Dean Anderson, I prefer him in Stargate SG-1. It's the mullet. It was so hard to take MacGyver seriously with that hair. The 1980s weren't a great decade for fashion.

Still, MacGyver was a cute little show and, as Mythbusters has proved, some of the stuff Mac made actually works. Chocolate to stop an acid leak? Check. Egg in the radiator to plug a hole? Check. Airplane made out of bamboo? Eh, not so much, but Mac gets points for creativity.

Other things to love about MacGyver, the show and the man. Mac was a fan of Calgary Flames for no apparent reason. That made me giggle. The show was also shot in Vancouver for four seasons, and they filmed at Bridge Studios, no less. I wonder if RDA ever gets tired of Vancouver. He can't seem to leave the city behind. ;-) But that was another bonus with watching MacGyver: spotting all of the familiar Vancouver landmarks and Canadian actors. There were so many people who appeared both in MacGyver and Stargate.

I'm surprised they haven't tried to bring back the show. With all the reboots and re-imaginings going on, a new MacGyver would fit right in. I'm not sure how the show would work now though. A handy cell phone would be able to get Mac out of a lot of jams.

And I think I've said this before, but the Doctor? Totally the Time Lord equivalent of MacGyver. :-D

This will probably be my last post for a week or so. See you after Thanksgiving.
