- Well, I'm officially unemployed now, but what are you going to do.

- At least now I have time to knit and read. I've been visiting my sister and my niece a lot over the past couple of weeks and I once again I get in an hour of reading while taking the train in and out of downtown. Maybe I can finish off the pile of books I got from my book club. I am definitely grateful for the knitting time. In my enthusiasm to make things, I decided to knit all of my Christmas gift. I've finished two but I still have two more to finish. Fingers crossed that I get them done on time.

- Speaking of knitting, I've been watching Jessica Jones and I can't stop staring at her grey scarf. It's an infinity scarf, but I can't make out the pattern on it. Hell, it might not even be knitted. But that's how my brain works now. I look at knitted items and I obsess over how they were made. I think Jessica's scarf may be a seed stitch pattern, but who knows.

- I'm only three episodes in to Jessica Jones, but I like it. Similar to Daredevil, they really down play her powers and so the show feels more like a detective show rather than a super hero show. I'm surprised they haven't referenced Daredevil yet, but maybe there's something later in the season. And damn, David Tennant's English accent is so slick; I'm so used to his rougher Tenth Doctor accent. I know Kilgrave is crazy and sadistic, but I would totally listen to anything he has to say with that accent. ;-)

- And Happy 52nd Whoniversay! It was two years ago that I got to tour the TARDIS set. Man, I really need to get back to Cardiff at some point. I didn't see enough of the city when I was there.

If there's an upside to unemployment, it's being forced to sit down and take a breath, and getting the opportunity to really think about what you most enjoy in life. I'm glad you're taking advantage of that.

I think I'm going to have to check out Jessica Jones, even though I don't tend to like gritty detective shows. I think I'm either going to love it, or get absolutely skeeved out about it and be unable to watch it ever again.

I'm glad David Tennant has such a great villainous role, though. He doesn't seem to have had any trouble with the "typecast as the Doctor" thing. I know that used to be a big problem back in Classic Who days; maybe it's not such an issue anymore? I certainly hope Matt Smith has the same experience, because I would love to see him play a psychopathic villain some day, too.

Yeah, now that everything is over, I don't have to stress about work and I have some time to relax. It'll be a nice, mini vacation. Too bad the weather isn't vacation weather...

I would say Jessica Jones is a bit like Veronica Mars. It's not super gritty and there are still lighter moments in the series. With that said, the tone is kind of dark because of what happened in Jessica's past. I haven't seen too much of David's performance yet, but it's refreshing to see him in the villain role. He can definitely pull it off.

Geeks rule everything now, so having played a Doctor was probably to David's advantage. Millions of people saw his acting chops. I read he was always the first choice to play the villain when they were developing Jessica Jones back in 2011.

I can't imagine Matt playing a villain, but I'm sure he would be brilliant at it. Hey, maybe he'll get hired on by Marvel.

I'm watching Jessica Jones, too. I have a love/hate relationship with it so far--like, the cinematography and casting and the care with which they're handling the subject matter is really great and it's a super compelling show, but there's so much traumatic stuff happening that it's also hard for me to watch.

Yeah, I get a little squirmy sometimes when they get into some of the traumatic stuff, but the rest of the show is so good that I can ignore my own discomfort.

Your Karen icon makes me wish that they could have the Netflix Marvel characters crossing over. I know everyone will eventually team up, but that's a few years away. I want to see Matt and Foggy acting as Jessica's lawyers because she got herself into some legal trouble.

I know! There are so many good potential crossovers there.

I just reached an episode where Jessica could have used a good lawyer and I kept waiting for Matt or Foggy to show up. Or someone could have slipped her their card or said in passing, "Oh yeah, I know some good lawyers. Nelson and some other guy; I can't remember his name."

I guess we'll just have to wait for the Defenders miniseries, whenever that is.

Oh, and I finished Uprooted. I didn't fall in love with it as I did with her first Temeraire book, but it was still a good book. It took me a while to get into it, but once Agnieszka left the tower to save her town and she started to practice magic then I really got into it. The approach to magic was neat. The Dragon and the Falcon have a very tradition approach to their magic while Agnieszka's approach is more natural. I can totally see how she was able to battle the Wood. It'll be fun to see more of this world; the story can't just end with just one book.

I just saw a cameo of one of the cops from Daredevil, but I've didn't get to say much because of plot reasons.

I liked the different approaches to magic in Uprooted, too! I don't know about sequels, but I heard someone bought the movie rights.

Yeah, Mahonney was in episode seven (I think that's his name). I wasn't sure when I was watching the episode but when I looked at the cast list afterwards, it confirmed it was the same character. For a few seconds, I was super hopeful that Matt or Foggy would show up, because I was thinking their cop friend called them. but nope. It was Kilgrave who fixed everything in the police station.

I heard that, too, about Uprooted. I think it was Ellen's production company. I see it more as a miniseries, though. That's a lot of plot to cram into a two hour movie.
