- Three weeks out from the comic book expo and now is the time that I decide to start working on my cosplays? Okay, so it's not like I'm starting costumes from scratch with only 21 days to go, but you think I would have done this sooner. Good thing it's only minor additions to cosplays that are pretty much done anyway, but the pieces still need to ship from their various locations. I do have about a week wiggle room if things do arrive later than the estimate, but it'll be close.

I promised myself that I wouldn't buy any more stuff for my Ace jacket, since it cost a lot to get the majority of the patches, badges, and pins, but someone on one of the Doctor Who cosplay forums posted a link for one of Ace's more elusive pins and I just had to get it. And the wonderful thing about Ace's jacket is that the configuration of all her embellishments was always changing, so I can remove items and the jacket will still be accurate. So I'm thinking I'll go with how the jacket looks in "Silver Nemesis" as it has fewer items than what was seen in "Remembrance of the Daleks" (which is my current layout).

Then I had the sudden notion that I needed an argyle sweater for my femme!Four cosplay even though I already have a brown sweater that will do just fine. I mean, it'll make the costume look a little bit more like the actual costume, but at the same time, I probably could have saved myself some money. Oh well. It's a piece that'll be good for the long run and I can wear it with regular clothes, too.

I suppose that's the nice thing about cosplays. They're never just "done". You can always change them and update them as your skill level and your budget improve.

- Well, after all of that teasing, Arrow finally answered the mystery that's been hanging over the entire season.

Who was in the grave in the flashforward? Turns out, it was Laurel. While she wasn't on my list of potential dead people, I'm not very surprised. Laurel has always been the weakest character on the show, and while the writers have done their best to keep her relevant to the main plot, it never worked. She was a boring love interest, her turn as an alcoholic was just stupid, and becoming a masked vigilante came much too late. Even when she finally joined Team Arrow, it really didn't add much. More often than not, Laurel just hung out in the background until it was time to beat up the bad guys. So maybe the writers finally realized that it was time to let the character go.

Honestly, I never warmed to Laurel. She was introduced as the lost love/love interest and she never really gained an identity separate from Ollie in the first season. She became assistant D.A. in season two, and that had some potential, but she was quickly overshadowed when Sara was introduced as the Canary. The only time Laurel had an interesting side story was when she was being trained by Nyssa in season three. Here were two women, sharing in their grief over a common loved one, and at the same time they were forming a friendship. But that was the only time Laurel was allowed some depth. The rest of the time, she was the woman Ollie couldn't be with, or someone for Lance to worry about. It also didn't help that Stephen Amell and Katie Cassidy had zero chemistry. At least the writers recognized that and they had Ollie lose romantic interest in Laurel.

It was about time to kill off a main character, anyway, so I guess the show saw a dramatic way for Laurel to leave. At least it was a main character that Ollie was crying about in the flashforward. If it was just some recurring character, then the whole thing would have felt super contrived. Now, it's legitimate that Ollie would be that sad; he knew Laurel for most of his life. It also gives Ollie some good motivation to hunt down Darhk.

Weird question, though. So, in the hospital, Laurel asks Ollie if he can do something for her. The camera pulls back, we see them hold hands, but there's no audio. In the next scene, Laurel flat lines. Did Ollie kill her? The doctor says Laurel is suffering an embolism, which can be caused by an air bubble in the bloodstream. It would be super easy for Ollie to take an empty needle and insert the air inside into Laurel's IV. At the same time, it seemed like Laurel was stabbed in the lung, or something like that, so a blood clot could have formed and killed her that way. Anyway, the scene cuts were assembled oddly and I was left with the impression that Ollie performed an assisted suicide.

(If it's true, man, that's dark. Was Laurel under the impression that she would never get to be the Black Canary again because of her injury and, thus, she thought her life wasn't worth living anymore?)

And poor Lance. He didn't get to say good-bye to his daughter. I always thought that Lance was the most expendable of the cast, but he's survived quite well over the years. It'd be cool to see him be a more involved member of the team. He's currently suspended from active duty, so who knows if he will be re-instated.

Meanwhile, back on the Island, some stuff is happening. I've been so bored by the flashbacks this year that I totally failed to notice that the idol Reiter was after is the same idol as Darhk's. Or, if not the exact same idol, at least an idol that has similar magical properties. I shouldn't be so bored that I missed vital plot points like that. I'm going to be so happy when they drop the flashbacks after season five. Because after that, Ollie's island adventure will be over. One assume Ollie ends up in Russia next season, since he still needs to acquire his Bratva tattoo.

I assume the mystery is solved, unless this entire thing is a red herring, but that seems kind of cruel.

- The trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story dropped today. I had completely forgot that the movie was coming out in December. Maybe I'm just in denial that there's going to be new Star Wars content like every year. *in crotchety old person voice* In my day, all we had to look forward to were the special editions and the prequels.

Kidding aside, it does look interesting and there's another new female lead we can admire. :-)
