Only it's not laryngitis. I went back to the doctor's today (wow, I really wanted to capitalize that word while I was typing) and he didn't say anything about laryngitis. It's just a nasty cold that has settled on my vocal cords and won't go away. Great.

I feel like I'm spamming my poor flist with useless posts, but I really miss being able to talk. I'm not a chatterbox in real life, but it's so weird not being able to communicate, not even with a simple yes or no. I've turned in to a mime. Ultimately, that means I taking the rest of the week off from work. Granted, we had Friday off anyway, so it's only one more day, but I've never been out sick for such a long before. I was sending emails back and forth today with the admin looking after my stuff and she sounds super swamped. I feel bad that I can't come in and help, but I'm sure that my co-workers don't want to catch what I have.

I did discover today that I have more remote access than I thought. I can actually get into project folders from home. Not that it did me much good. I can't save into them for some strange reason. So I was able to help out a little. Didn't tell anyone beyond the other admin, though. I don't need people bugging me at home.

When I wasn't trying to work out my access, I was happily watching the DVD for "The Reign of Terror" that I got out of the library. I just love that my library keeps buying Doctor Who DVDs. This one was a fun one since they animated the missing episodes. It's a little weird, though, watching the animated episodes. How do the animators decide what a shot should look like? Are they following notes left behind by the director? Or is it the animator's prerogative? And I found that the direction of the animated episodes really doesn't match the rest, but I think it's probably because of the limitation of the animation. You get more close-ups in the animation while the regular episodes are staged more traditionally for TV at the time. I wish the DVD had a featurette about the missing episodes and how they were animated. It's fair to say that only geeks will buy the DVD and we love stuff like that. :-)

I'm sick of being sick. :-P
Being the sad geek that I am, I elected to watch Stargate: Continuum rather than seeing The Dark Knight with some friends. I'm not sure what that says about me. It was all I could think about at work. :-)

I hope they continue to make more DVD movies. Wasn't it just said that Comic-Con that they're close to securing at third movie and a third show? These movies allow for more stories to be told but on a much bigger scale and I think that suits SG-1 just fine.
Oh man, it's like, geek resurrection month or something. All three Joss Whedon shows are in the comics and Stargate SG-1 is back. Yay!

I can't believe it's been a year since I've seen any new SG-1. Through the wonders of the Internet, I watched "Unending" back in March 2007. It was so nice to see the team again and be involved in that part of the universe. And since I wasn't forced to watch this movie through "alternative means", I got to watch SG-1 on the TV for once. That was nice, too. A nice, relatively big screen for this nice, epic story.

I hope the movies do well and then they can make more. I wouldn't mind two DVD movies every other year or so. The only downside would be you wouldn't get to see entire movies devoted to character moments and you'd only find out what the characters have been up to every other year. Still, it would keep the show alive and that's just fine.
Bought the season ten DVDs of Stargate SG-1 on Tuesday just because it's the last season and I figured I would make the effort. Of course inside the box was an ad for the boxed set for all ten seasons but I'm not sure if I care that much. :-D Anyway, been going through the commentaries and hit the first episode Morena appears. Turns out the writer bought the Firefly DVDs and instantly became hooked. Then he started loaning them out and the rest of the crew became addicted. Don't know if any of cast became fans; the writer and director said in the commentary the cast and crew are all fans, but "cast" could just cover the lowly bit players. A couple of times in the commentary the writer and director gush about Firefly, which was so nice to hear. And this hasn't been the first time either. Firefly got a bunch of mentions on the Stargate Atlantis season two DVDs, mainly because of Jewel.

And a cool tidbit I did not know. When trying to cast Sheppard, a few names came up, included among them Ben Browder and Nathan Fillion. Seems like they didn't really pursue Nathan, but I think it's great that he's one of the names that popped up. Though the writer in the episode commentary wrongly called Nathan a Manitoba boy. Uh dude, he's an Albertan, born and raised.

In general Stargate ranting, the box boldly stated that the set included the trailer for the first DVD movie, The Ark of Truth. I was sadly disappointed to learn the trailer consisted of old footage from episodes concerning the Ori. No new footage at all, except at the end when there's sand blowing over something buried in the ground. The Ark of Truth I assume. Hopefully for the Atlantis season three DVDs they'll have a better trailer. Cause the dang movies have already been shot; it wouldn't hurt to show a bit of something to entice the fans.

However, I fear spoilers may come out as the I progress through the commentaries. It's obvious they were recorded during the off time between seasons, so Atlantis season four was probably well into script stage and maybe some stuff was being filmed, along with the two DVD movies. Though, not much has been revealed and the producers probably want it to stay that way until next year.

But bottom line: Firefly fans are everywhere! Even on other sci-fi shows. :-D
I know the DVDs just came out yesterday in Canada, but they've been out in the U.S. since January. And yay for me, my mom bought them for me as a late Christmas gift. Score! Haven't watched much yet due to homework, but I did listen to the commentary for School Reunion, one of the best new Doctor Who episodes in my opinion. Can't go wrong with having two old companions show up and Tony Head playing the bad guy.

But an interesting tidbit popped during the commentary. At one point they mention how far behind schedule they became with this episode. This prompted David Tennant to ask Tony Head on set how they managed to film 22 episodes for Buffy in the same amount of time Doctor Who takes to film 13 eps. I can't remember all of what David said, but he did say that Tony told him that for one episode of Buffy they filmed all day and all night until they got the ep done. 22-23 hours of shooting or something. Huh? When did this happen? This is news to me. Did this happen while they were filming Once More, With Feeling or maybe one of the finales?

I'm probably going to save watching the DVDs for when my reading break rolls around. Got enough distractions as it is. :D
