Well, the TV season is done, more or less. Just some long winded thoughts on my shows:

Spoilers for Arrow season seven )

Spoilers for The Flash season five )

Spoilers for Supergirl season four )

Spoilers for Legends of Tomorrow season four )

- So, for the crossover, it's across all five shows, though the first three episodes will air in December 2019 and the last two in 2020. I'm disappointed that Legends of Tomorrow is getting pushed back to a mid season premiere, but at least they are a part of the crossover this time. Seems strange that they're splitting it like that instead of airing it across an entire week, but maybe it's so big, they need the extra time to do special effects or something. And I would honestly love it if they visited other Earths that were old DC TV shows, like Smallville Earth or Lois and Clark Earth. They did it with 1990 The Flash, so it's not a stretch. Oh, and it's cool that they're bundling the CW-DC shows next season. Supergirl and Batwoman on Sundays and The Flash and Arrow on Tuesdays.

And now to the non CW-DC shows...

Spoilers for Star Trek: Discovery season two )

- The Orville: Renewed for season three! It's still weird how much I like this show. I guess it's because it feels like the Star Trek show I'm used to (i.e. TNG). Season two was a definite improvement over season one. They dialled back on the stupidity of the jokes and they focused more on the characters. I'm also game for more guest spots from Star Trek alum. I laughed so hard when they had not one, but two doctors in one episode (The Doctor and Phlox).

- The Rookie: Also renewed! I watch mainly for Nathan Fillion, but it's not a bad show on its own.

iZombie and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. are still going. Last season for iZombie but I'm not sure how it's going to end. Meanwhile, on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., stuff is happening, though it's not super clear why. There's also the matter of the elephant in the room:

Spoilers for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season six and Avengers: Endgame )

The only new show I'm interested in seeing right now is Batwoman, but honestly, I haven't seen what the other networks are offering.
I don't know if someone at the expo made a sacrifice to the weather gods, but it didn't snow! By some miracle, the weather held. It was damn cold but no one had to walk in the rain and/or snow.

Friday details behind the cut )

Tomorrow I have to grab Catherine's autograph and get a photo-op with her. I also knitted a Shazam doll for Zachary Levi, so I need to give that to him. Here's hoping he accepts gifts from fans.
Looks like most shows are on their winter break now, so I thought I would get a few thoughts down.

And there were a couple of shows that finished their season, too:

Vague spoilers for Inhumans )

Vague spoilers for The Orville season one )

I'm currently trying to catch up with Runaways, but it's been kind of slow so far so I haven't felt the need to binge it. Also, it airs on Showcase here in Canada so airs weekly rather than being available all at once like on Hulu. I may have more thoughts later. In the spring, iZombie is back and there's also Black Lightning. I don't know if I'll check it out. If it's good, maybe I'll watch it later.

Whew, that was a long post. Clearly I watch too much TV. :-D
I only meant to pick up one new TV show, Star Trek: Discovery, but I somehow ended up with two more. One by accident and one because, well, there's nothing else to watch on Fridays for now.

All of the CW DC superhero shows are back this week, so they'll get a separate post, but in the mean time, my thoughts on three new TV shows: Star Trek: Discovery, The Orville, and Inhumans.

Spoilers for the first three episodes of Inhumans )

Can't wait for the CW DC shows to come back. The crossover sounds truly epic this season.
- Did a second locked library yesterday. It was part of Beakerhead, a science/art mash-up that's held in the city every year, so this locked library was much bigger than the last one I did; around 900 people, so roughly 200 teams. It was also held in the central library downtown, which is six stories tall. The size really helped with crowd control. The other locked library was held in a smaller library that only had two floors, so all of the teams started in the same place. This time, they split the teams across the various floors, so you had a different starting point depending on the colour of the wristband you were given.

And this locked library was space themed! The premise was the library was a prison ship for library offenders, i.e. late fees, people who fold down the corner of the page to mark their place, etc. You had to gather code words and then those words correlated to symbols, and then those symbols were the entry code for the escape pod. I think this locked library was a little easier than the other one. You mostly had to find words and then you pulled letters from those words to get the code word. It was somewhat easy to guess the code word even if you didn't have all of the letters. My team finished in the top third and it only took us one hour out of the three that was allotted. I think what helped the most was the use of our phones. You could take pictures of everything and then solve the puzzle, rather than going from clue to clue. I don't think it was cheating per se, there was nothing in the instructions that forbade the use of phones, but I did see a few teams where they approached it without any technological aids.

But anyway, the space theme. I wish I had more time to really appreciate the set-up, but you're too busy running around like a crazy person to really absorb the little details. At one point, there was an orientation video that you had to watch and that was pretty funny. I felt like the space prison for library offenders was something Doctor Who might do; hell, I might write something around that if I find the time.

I hope the locked library is a staple of Beakerhead going forward. By next year, the new central library should be done, so that'd be a great way to get people to the new location.

- Star Trek: Discovery premieres next week. Notice the lack of an exclamation point in the previous sentence. I mean, it's nice that there's a new Star Trek show, but I have a feeling that it won't be great. It's like the writers and the producers lost their vision of the show along the way. And the Klingons look weird! They say the show is set in the Prime Universe, but the visuals skew more towards the Kelvin Timeline. I don't know. Maybe Discovery will surprise me; one can only hope.

- In prep for the premiere, Space, the channel that will be airing Discovery (yup, no pay wall for Canada), is doing Star Trek marathons this weekend and next weekend. In a clever bit of scheduling, all of the episodes today are ones that feature the second in command. So the DS9 eps are all about Kira, the TNG ones are all about Riker, etc. Neat little nod to Michael, who will be the latest Commander to hit our screens. I also laughed when I saw that all of the Enterprise episodes are in the middle of the night. :-D Man, I love Space. Run by geeks, for geeks.
- The local comic book expo announced Nathan Fillion as the first guest for next year. He was here three years ago, but I'm not going to say no to more Nathan Fillion. :-) The expo claims he really liked it the last time he was here and has wanted to come back ever since. Now that he has all of this free time, he can certainly do the con circuit. Plus, he can go visit his family up in Edmonton once the con is over.

I kind of want to believe that this is a lead up to a Firefly reunion. 2017 is the 15th anniversary since the show premiered. I don't think many of the cast are working right now so it wouldn't be that hard to gather them all together for a weekend. I'm only short three more signatures for my Serenity comic! If I can get the rest in one fell swoop, I will be super happy.

- I checked out the first episode of the animated reconstruction of "The Power of the Daleks" and it's okay. I can't imagine watching the rest of the serial like this. Like, I don't mind the odd animated episode here and there, especially if it's filling out an incomplete serial, but if you're going to do the whole thing, you really need better animation. I know, the BBC budget for this isn't huge, but something a bit more smooth would have been nice. The movement of the characters feels a little stilted or jerky at times and other times they're just standing there, not doing much of anything. Oh well, just more incentive to find more missing episodes.

- I also checked out the first episode of The Grand Tour aka The Show That Isn't Top Gear But Is Totally Top Gear But Just With More Money. It's more of the same when Clarkson, May, and Hammond were hosting Top Gear, and that's just fine. I really only watched Top Gear for the fun and weird antics the guys got up to. I do miss The Stig, though. He mostly just drove cars around the track, but when they did allow him to do other things, like have him riding the Tube in a four way race across London, he was amusing to watch.

- They finally started casting for the new Star Trek series! Michelle Yeoh will be playing a starship captain. She won't be the captain of the Discovery from the sound of things, so it's probably just a recurring role, but that's still cool. An Asian captain! I don't think we've really had one since we saw Sulu as the captain of the Excelsoir. Hopefully this leads to more casting announcements. They really need to get their butts moving if they want to make the premiere date of May next year.

- And Happy Whoniversary (yesterday)! Just over a month until a new episode!
