I think the smartest thing I ever did in university was try to learn a new language, that language being Chinese. Then, after three years' worth of courses, I promptly forgot everything, which has to be the stupidest thing I've done. Use it or lose it, right?

Well, what better way to use my forgotten Chinese than with some Firefly banners! One for each character with an appropriate quote for each. The quotes are probably horribly translated in Chinese, the only ones I'm really sure about are Jayne's and Zoe's, but the average person isn't going to know, right? ;-)

I'm not rightly sure what you'd used these for, but they were fun to make:

Ha, Castle had the best Firefly reference ever last night.

But I don't know, the costume looked... off somehow. I think it was the pants. They weren't tight enough. :-D

Tahmoh wasn't there! *breaks into hysterical sobs*

*takes deep breath*

I don't think I've ever seen that many people attend this con before. It was... wow. When I got there at 10:00, the line was so long it was leading into the other building next to hall where the con was. I was all worried I wouldn't get good seats, but oddly, once my sister and I got past the doors, the room where the BSG panel was was empty. Seems no one had decided to stake out seats beforehand. So we just walked right to the front of the room and planted our butts right in the middle. :-D

Tomorrow's sort of a lacklustre day, none of the media guests are doing panels, but they will be appearing for Ed and Red's mini show. That's right, Ed the Sock.
My gosh, April is going to be geektastic, at least for me. First the official Stargate con in Vancouver in the beginning of April then the local comic book con at the end of the month.

And Jewel's slated to appear! Yay! I was kind of hoping she might appear at the Stargate convention, but now I don't have to go anywhere to see her. :-) I can get my Firefly comic signed, getting me one step closer to my extremely implausible goal of getting the entire cast to autograph it. I so have to buy a weekend pass now.

Whoo hoo! This comic book con just keeps getting better and better.

Momentum carried Inara forward and she ungracefully crashed into the Doctor, unable to stop. )
I've gotten a little behind on my comic thoughts. I blame school. But it's the last week. Hooray!

I wonder why Dark Horse doesn't make Firefly into an actual comic series. I think there's enough demand out there; just look at how well Buffy Season Eight is doing. Or maybe they're just saving all the really good stories for a sequel. :-D

So [profile] goldy_dollar mentioned an interest in doing a Doctor Who/Firefly ficathon. It's not official yet, but I thought I would whip up some images of the Serenity crew with the Doctor and Rose/Martha anyway. :-D

Currently 800x600 for no apparent reason. I can blow up the images to 1024x768 if anyone so desires.

Geek Resurrection Month continues! Like I said previously, this month, and for the next two months, all three Joss Whedon shows are back and in the comics. Whoo!

I've gotten behind on my comic book thoughts. Buffy #12 is up first mainly because it's been a year since the series was turned into a comic and I totally didn't realize it. You'd think that after spending $3.50 a month I would be keeping a better track of these things. A year. It doesn't feel like it. I can't even remember what I was doing a year ago. Well, besides going to university. I take it as a good sign that I didn't recall it's been a year. After complaining that these stories can't come fast enough it seems I've become used to seeing a story a month.

And hurray for more new Firefly! It's not the same as having the show back or a new movie, but it works just as well.

I'm just slightly confused on when this comic is set. It's clearly before the movie and before "Those Left Behind". But it's not clear how far after the show "Better Days" is set. The crew has the new mule but Inara and Book are still on board. I assume either Inara hasn't told the crew yet she's leaving or this is just part of the long run around Mal did before dropping Inara off at the Training House.

Next issue looks exciting. And I've said it before, but I'm loving the covers. First, I only have to buy one, and second, it makes a pretty picture of the crew together.
Hee, all three covers for Serenity: Better Days have now been released. I love it. :-D

I read somewhere the story is set after Serenity: Those Left Behind, but the second cover clearly shows Inara and Book. I can only assume it was an error. I can't wait to read the first issue. It'll be nice to see the crew together and happy and rolling in the cashy money.

So five years ago today Firefly premiered on FOX. Just think; if it hadn't been cancelled the show would be going into its fifth season. Think of all the wacky adventures the crew could be having.

In honour of that fateful Friday five years ago I want to ask: how did you get into Firefly?

My discovery of Firefly is a lacklustre story. Obsessed Buffy fan that I am, I heard Joss Whedon was developing a new show for FOX and I totally thought, "I'm there!" It didn't even matter to me what it was about. Another Joss Whedon show; who could beat that. I didn't follow the whole process from start to finish but occasionally I would check out who they casted, most times going, "Who?" Seriously, the first time I saw a picture of Nathan I actually thought he wasn't that cute. I do remember hearing FOX would be airing the episodes out of order but I was too optimistic to realize it was a portent of doom.

When Firefly premiered I was alone in the house so it was just me watching and laughing with delight. I can even remember the moment when I fell for this show. Mal walks into Inara's shuttle and he's all serious and concerned for her well-being (though he doesn't go out and admit it of course). He leaves the shuttle with his bow and you think that's the end of the scene. Then Mal walks back in and asks Inara if she could do his hair like she had been doing with Kaylee. It was such a Joss Whedon moment. Totally seriousness followed by some trademark Whedon humour.

Of course, we all know what happened next. Twelve aired episodes and kaput. Looking at Wikipedia, it says CSI: Miami and Without A Trace premiered the same year and they're still on the air. So, if Firefly had been a police procedural we'd have our fifth season. ;-)

Bought the season ten DVDs of Stargate SG-1 on Tuesday just because it's the last season and I figured I would make the effort. Of course inside the box was an ad for the boxed set for all ten seasons but I'm not sure if I care that much. :-D Anyway, been going through the commentaries and hit the first episode Morena appears. Turns out the writer bought the Firefly DVDs and instantly became hooked. Then he started loaning them out and the rest of the crew became addicted. Don't know if any of cast became fans; the writer and director said in the commentary the cast and crew are all fans, but "cast" could just cover the lowly bit players. A couple of times in the commentary the writer and director gush about Firefly, which was so nice to hear. And this hasn't been the first time either. Firefly got a bunch of mentions on the Stargate Atlantis season two DVDs, mainly because of Jewel.

And a cool tidbit I did not know. When trying to cast Sheppard, a few names came up, included among them Ben Browder and Nathan Fillion. Seems like they didn't really pursue Nathan, but I think it's great that he's one of the names that popped up. Though the writer in the episode commentary wrongly called Nathan a Manitoba boy. Uh dude, he's an Albertan, born and raised.

In general Stargate ranting, the box boldly stated that the set included the trailer for the first DVD movie, The Ark of Truth. I was sadly disappointed to learn the trailer consisted of old footage from episodes concerning the Ori. No new footage at all, except at the end when there's sand blowing over something buried in the ground. The Ark of Truth I assume. Hopefully for the Atlantis season three DVDs they'll have a better trailer. Cause the dang movies have already been shot; it wouldn't hurt to show a bit of something to entice the fans.

However, I fear spoilers may come out as the I progress through the commentaries. It's obvious they were recorded during the off time between seasons, so Atlantis season four was probably well into script stage and maybe some stuff was being filmed, along with the two DVD movies. Though, not much has been revealed and the producers probably want it to stay that way until next year.

But bottom line: Firefly fans are everywhere! Even on other sci-fi shows. :-D

Summary/Prompt: The Doctor emotes about Rose. Inara comforts.
Disclaimer: Firefly and Doctor Who belong to their respective creators and producers. I'm just bringing them together because [profile] goldy_dollar and [personal profile] ninamazing told me to. :-D
A/N: Written for [community profile] sonic_tea. Much thanks to [personal profile] ninamazing for beta-ing this. You rock. This fic can be considered as an alternative epilogue to my Firefly/Doctor Who crossover "A Different Kind of Companion" though you don't need to read it to understand this story.
